We are seeking an experienced Faculty Research Degrees Manager to provide strategic and operational leadership for postgraduate research (PGR), within a world-leading public health institution and postgraduate university based in Central London. This is a short-term, part-time opportunity ideal for a candidate with strong UK higher education experience who can quickly add value in a complex and collaborative environment.

Working closely with senior academic leaders, including Faculty Research Degrees Directors and the Dean of the Doctoral College, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive, and compliant PGR experience aligned with institutional strategy and sector best practice. This role combines oversight of core PGR processes with a focus on service improvement, data-informed planning, and cross-Faculty coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Faculty PGR Leadership & Advisory
    • Support the development, implementation, and review of Doctoral College strategy, policy, and practice
    • Provide expert advice on PGR regulations, quality assurance, and sector expectations
    • Represent the Faculty in institutional PGR forums and working groups
    • Provide administrative support and guidance to the Dean of the Doctoral College
  • PGR Lifecycle Oversight
    • Oversee the full PGR lifecycle, including admissions, progression, examination, and completion
    • Ensure processes are fair, effective, and compliant with regulations
    • Support induction and integration of new PGR students
    • Act as an escalation point for complex or high-risk cases
  • Data, Reporting & Planning
    • Lead on PGR data analysis (recruitment, progression, completion, attrition)
    • Produce reports to support strategic decision-making
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement
    • Ensure compliance with institutional and external PGR frameworks
    • Lead service improvement initiatives to enhance the PGR experience
Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Substantial experience supporting postgraduate research activity in UK higher education
    • Strong knowledge of PGR regulations and quality assurance requirements
    • Experience advising senior stakeholders
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills
    • Experience of leadership or line management
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in service improvement or change initiatives
    • Awareness of sector-wide PGR developments
    • Experience supporting committees and governance structures
    • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience
