This is a well-established, independent firm of accountants and business advisors with a century-plus history serving businesses across the North West, known for straightforward, jargon-free advice and strong long-term client relationships.

The firm is expanding its payroll offering and is looking for a Senior Payroll Manager to lead that growth β€” building out the team, developing the client base, and shaping the department's strategy from an early stage. It's a genuine opportunity to leave your mark on a service line the firm is committed to growing.

Senior Payroll Manager – Responsibilities

Payroll Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee weekly and monthly payroll processing across the client base
  • Ensure full compliance with UK tax regulations, RTI, and year-end submissions
  • Handle any complex payroll queries promptly and accurately

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, train and mentor payroll staff (several of whom work remotely)
  • Recruit into the team as it grows

Business Growth

  • Contribute to the department's growth strategy
  • Support business development activity, including content for marketing/social channels

Senior Payroll Manager – Requirements

  • Proven payroll management experience, ideally CIPP-qualified or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation and RTI requirements
  • Experience managing or mentoring a payroll team, including remote staff
  • Experienced in an outsourced/bureau payroll environment
  • Confident communicator, capable of building trust with clients
  • Commercially minded, with an interest in helping grow the service line

Senior Payroll Manager – Benefits

Salary: Β£60,000 – Β£70,000 (depending on experience)

Benefits: Hybrid and flexible working (core hours 10am–3pm), 27 days' holiday plus your birthday and Christmas Eve off (with a holiday buy-back scheme after 12 months), a firmwide bonus of up to 10% of salary, and life assurance at 4x salary
