We are looking for a Field Service Technician to join our MetOcean Team at Vaisala in Aberdeen, UK. Join us in a role where you play a vital part in keeping offshore operations safe, ensuring reliable weather data for those who depend on it.

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. Our team of over 2,400 experts and 59 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don’t have to fit in to belong.

Take your skills where few can go. Work in offshore environments where your expertise ensures safe helicopter landings, vessel movements, and crane operations, keeping critical offshore operations running safely. Work with cutting‑edge weather monitoring systems. Work hands‑on with advanced meteorological and oceanographic systems that provide the critical data offshore operations rely on.

What’s your role?

You will be part of our MetOcean Team, a skilled group of professionals, formerly part of Nevis Technology and now integrated into Vaisala. Together with the team, you will have an excellent opportunity to work offshore, maintaining meteorological and oceanographical systems. You will also be maintaining and upgrading our Elements software, with the support of our software team. When not offshore, you will assist the onshore team in testing and shipping hardware, as required. In this role you will be working in close co‑operation with all members of our small Aberdeen team, and you will report to the Project and Service Manager.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing maintenance, troubleshooting, surveying and commissioning of offshore meteorological and oceanographic systems to ensure compliance with CAP437 and other applicable local standards.
  • Installing and configuring new weather monitoring systems in offshore environments.
  • Ensuring all operations comply with ISO9001:2015 quality systems and Vaisala procedures.
  • Whilst onshore, you will be testing, repairing, calibrating and shipping hardware.

What will you bring?

  • Previous experience with metocean sensors or similar instrumentation would be advantageous.
  • Hands‑on experience in servicing, installing, or inspecting instrumentation in an industrial or offshore environment.
  • Strong understanding of electronics, electrical systems, and software applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic engineering drawings.
  • ONC/HNC qualifications in electronics, electrical, or instrumentation fields, or relevant industry experience.
  • Willingness to travel offshore, primarily in the North Sea.
  • Strong health and safety awareness and capability to work at heights.
  • Offshore certifications such as MIST, BOSIET, CompEX, and Working at Heights are considered a plus.

Ready to take every measure for the planet? Apply at the latest on January 31, 2026 via the application form.
