We are now recruiting for a Mechanical Service Engineer to support the manufacturing of Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) systems and components. This is a hands-on role based within a manufacturing environment, where you'll play a key part in ensuring products meet strict technical specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. You'll be involved throughout the assembly and testing process, working closely with engineering, suppliers, and clients to deliver high-performance UHV solutions.
The successful candidate must be comfortable with regular travel, sometimes at short notice and for periods of 3 - 4 days at a time, to support installations, servicing, and customer requirements at client sites. This is a varied and practical role combining manufacturing support with field-based engineering activity.
In addition to this, as our Mechanical Service Engineer you will be responsible for:
- Interpreting and working from detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications
- Supporting the assembly and testing of UHV systems in line with vacuum performance standards
- Identifying and resolving manufacturing or design issues through structured problem-solving and root cause analysis
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Liaising with suppliers and customers to clarify technical specifications and requirements
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes and product design
In order to be successful in this role it's essential that you have:
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes suitable for UHV applications
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Understanding of machining, fabrication, and mechanical assembly processes
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Previous experience in manufacturing or vacuum technology is desirable, but not essential
Working Conditions: The role may require travel to client premises or other locations as necessary, sometimes at short notice. As part of your normal duties you may be required to travel to and work at client premises or other locations as reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties. While your normal place of work will be Lower Dicker, you agree to undertake such travel as is reasonably required by the Company. The Company will provide reasonable notice of such requirements and will reimburse authorised travel expenses.
