Technical Sales & Project Engineer

Waterlooville, Hampshire · Permanent, Full-Time · Hybrid (office and site)

£50,000-£60,000 (depending on experience) + performance bonus

Are you a technically strong M&E project engineer who wants to shape projects from the very first site visit, not inherit someone else's price and programme? If you enjoy getting under the skin of a plant room, building a scope and price you can stand behind, and then seeing it through to a clean handover, this could be the role for you.

About the company

Our client is a specialist engineering and technical services business operating within critical infrastructure and facilities environments. Known for its technical expertise, exceptional service and trusted client relationships, the business supports major organisations across healthcare, facilities management, higher education, utilities and other asset-intensive sectors. Having grown into a successful multi-million-pound business, it is now entering an ambitious new phase of growth and building the project capability to deliver it.

The role

We’re looking for a Technical Sales & Project Engineer to own our larger and specialist projects, typically £30k-£500k in value, from first survey to final handover. You’ll go out alongside the sales team to meet clients and survey sites, turn what you find into a detailed scope and quotation, and once the work is secured, plan and manage delivery, including the specialist subcontractors. Projects range from gas works and boiler replacements to large pump upgrades, AHU refurbishments and one-off specialist schemes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Attend site visits and client meetings alongside the sales team, bringing the technical depth to understand the problem and shape the right solution.
  • Survey and scope projects in detail - gas and boiler works, large pump upgrades, AHU refurbishments and upgrades, and specialist projects.
  • Build accurate, well-presented quotations for the sales team, gathering supplier and subcontractor prices and pricing labour, plant and risk properly.
  • Once a project is secured, plan and manage it end to end: programme, procurement, RAMS, permits and client communication.
  • Appoint, coordinate and manage specialist subcontractors on site, holding them to the agreed standard of quality, safety and programme.
  • Control cost and variations against the quoted budget, and hand over with complete commissioning and O&M documentation.

About you

  • Proven M&E project delivery experience, including managing subcontractors on live commercial sites.
  • Estimating experience - confident turning a site survey into an accurate, priced scope.
  • A technical background in gas, heating or HVAC (Gas Safe registration or equivalent HVAC experience).
  • A current SMSTS or SSSTS certificate.
  • Commercially aware and credible in front of clients - comfortable discussing scope, value and price alongside the sales team.
  • Organised and self-directed, able to run several quotes and live projects at the same time.
  • A full UK driving licence and happy to travel across London and the South of England.

What’s in it for you

  • £50,000-£60,000 basic salary, depending on experience, plus a performance-related bonus.
  • Company van, mobile phone and laptop.
  • Workplace pension and holiday allowance.
  • Real ownership - you scope it, you price it, you deliver it.
  • Varied, technically interesting work across healthcare, higher education, defence, water and commercial sites.
  • Hybrid working between our Waterlooville office and client sites.
  • Join a profitable, ambitious business at the start of a significant growth phase, with room to grow as it does.

Interested? If you’re a project engineer who wants to own the whole job - from the first conversation to the final handover - we’d love to hear from you for a confidential conversation.
