Additional Requirements:
- Responsible to the Commander for the Engine Department and the safety of the crew, machinery, and the environment directly under their control.
- Implementation of the Company's policies contained in the company's procedures and other official instructions related to all machinery operations, safety, and environmental protection.
- Ensure that the Officers and crew of the Engine Department receive formal familiarisation training upon boarding the vessel, through the designated officer on board.
- Discipline on board and performance evaluation of all Officers and crew members of the Engine Department.
- Safe operation of the machinery and technical plant of the vessel.
- Implementation of the Lock Out Tag Out system.
- Monitoring the performance of the main propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
- Accurate monitoring and control of fuel and lubricating oil consumption of the vessel, as well as the status of the quantities supplied (bunkers).
- Supply of fuel, lubricating oils, and other fluids as appropriate.
- Maintenance of the main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, cargo handling equipment, and deck machinery.
- Compliance with statutory and classification requirements regarding machinery and relevant spaces.
- Accurate recording of all operational parameters of the machinery by watchkeeping officers/service officers in the machinery logbook.
- Reporting any accidents and/or damage to the machinery or technical plant of the vessel.
- Supervision and training of Engine Cadets.
- Act as Ship Safety Officer, along with the duties outlined in the Ship Safety Plan (noting that this role may be performed by the First Officer).
- Assessment and mitigation of all identified risks on board, in cooperation with other members of the vessel management team.
- Ensure that files and technical drawings on board are updated and maintained by the designated officers.
- Comply with the vessel's budget allocation and the Company's purchasing procedures.
- Accurate maintenance of all records relating to fuel oil, used oil, and sludge on board (Oil Record Book – Machinery, Engine Room Sounding Book).
- Support the Commander in all aspects of vessel operation and act as the Company's technical representative when dealing with third parties.
- Implement and monitor the planned maintenance system (PMS) established on board.
- Ensure that all critical equipment and machinery are in good working condition and that any defects are effectively repaired or reported to the Ship Management Office, through the Commander.
- Fully participate in VMS management meetings on board.
- Perform any other tasks or responsibilities as required by the Company.
