They currently require End Point Assessors (EPAs) for Apprentices undertaking the Power Industry Overhead Linesperson standard, to join their bank of Independent End Point Assessors. As an EPA, you will carry out apprentice assessments, including practical observations and technical interviews. You’ll play a vital role in validating skills and knowledge.
To work as an EPA for the Power Industry Overhead Linesperson Standard, you will need to possess up-to-date occupational knowledge and competence.
STANDARD - POWER INDUSTRY OVERHEAD LINESPERSON
Overhead Linespersons undertake planned and reactive work to maintain and repair plant and equipment associated with power distribution or transmission overhead lines. They work in the power industry for power utility owners, operators, or contractors, on overhead line power distribution and transmission networks. Distribution lines carry electricity from a substation to consumers – residential and commercial. Transmission lines move electricity from a power plant or power station to the various substations. There are differences in equipment and working procedures between the two networks. The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) regulates the industry.
This is a core and options apprenticeship. An apprentice must be trained and assessed on the core and one option. The options are:
- Option 1. distribution linesperson
- Option 2. transmission linesperson
Distribution linespersons work on small scale structures, typically capable of carrying up to 132,000 volts, and their support mechanisms. Transmission linespersons work on large support structures, for example, steel towers, typically capable of carrying 132,000 volts and above, and their support mechanisms.
THE ROLE
The role is offered on a flexible basis via a zero hours contract. The hours available vary dependent on demand, and registered EPAs always have a choice to accept assignments based on their availability. This role may be undertaken complementary to an existing substantive position with the permission of your current employer or within a wider portfolio of activities.
Upon taking assignments from the Service Delivery team, you will deliver end-point assessment for the Power Industry Overhead Linesperson apprenticeship standard and assessment method you are approved for. You will undertake (remotely or directly) end-point assessment activities (which may include practical observations and technical interviews), awarding a preliminary grade and ensuring that all assessment decisions are fair, objective, free of bias and based on all relevant evidence presented. You will accurately record the outcomes of all end-point assessment activity using assessment material, submitting these records within required timescales.
