V-Recruit are currently recruiting for a Temp to Perm Workshop Assistant/Machinery Maintenance Operative to start work for a company who specialise in the hire and sale of tools and machinery in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Our client are specialists in construction, horticulture, gardening, and forestry sections and both sell and maintain/repair such machinery on a trade/commercial and private basis.

Duties

  • Cleaning and testing machinery after it has been repaired – this will range from small hand tools, such as chainsaws to large plant equipment such as diggers (training will be given)
  • Assembling new machinery for sale, such as general garden equipment such as hedge-cutters, lawn mowers (training will be given)
  • Sharpening hedge-cutters, chainsaws, making new chainsaw chains (training will be given)
  • Assisting mechanics where needed with their duties
  • Keeping the workshop tidy i.e., sweeping up, emptying bins, recycling, making sure all equipment is correctly stored, ensuring there are no health or trip hazards etc.
  • Deliveries within the South Yorkshire area as and when required
  • Unloading deliveries and moving stock around i.e., unpacking pallets and putting stock away in the correct places
  • Bringing equipment in and out of the workshop for customers dropping off/collecting

Job Specifics

£14.10 per hour. Working hours are 7am-5pm, Monday-Friday. This is a temporary role, paid through V-Recruit in the first instance but there is a view to it becoming permanent after the first 12 weeks.

The Candidate

  • We are looking for someone with existing experience within horticulture/forestry/landscaping, or who has a keen interest in developing skills and pursuing a career within this sector.
  • The right candidate must be ‘mechanically minded’, and ideally have experience working with machinery, tools, or mechanics.
  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential, (B+E Licences desirable but not essential).
  • The right candidate must be reliable and hardworking, and be willing to improve current skills and learn new skills – you will be given full and enhanced training, but must be willing to listen and show an interest in the work.
  • This is a manual role and can be fast paced throughout the busy season. Lifting and carrying is required. Safe practices are in place, but candidates must be willing and able.
  • Reliable and punctual – part of the role will be to assist with the opening and unloading of the workshop.
  • You will need to provide relevant references.
