This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Technology & Standards Lead in video and/or image standards to step into a highly visible senior role where your expertise will directly shape the future of video coding. At V-Nova, you won’t simply participate in standards discussions - you will contribute to strategy, influence early architectural decisions, and help define the technical direction of next-generation codecs. You will have the platform to draft, defend, and negotiate normative contributions at the highest level, while ensuring your work translates into real product impact and long-term IP value. Operating at the intersection of standards, engineering, and commercial strategy, you will gain the autonomy to shape emerging areas such as immersive media, XR/VR, point cloud compression, and pixel streaming, positioning yourself as a recognised technical authority within the global video coding community.
Responsibilities
- Act as V-Nova’s technical leader and primary representative in JVET and MPEG.
- Lead and coordinate all technical contributions related to next-generation video codecs.
- Influence early architectural and design decisions.
- Align internal R&D activities with emerging standardization directions to maximize long-term IP value and strategic positioning.
- Build credibility and consensus within the JVET and MPEG communities.
- Support standardization activities in applications standards such as DVB, SBTVD, etc.
- Ensure coherence and alignment between application and technical standardization strategies.
- Define and lead V-Nova’s early-stage standardization strategy for immersive and volumetric media, including V-Nova PresenZ (XR/VR), point cloud compression, and pixel streaming.
- Identify appropriate standardization bodies and engagement models.
- Shape early terminology, use cases, scope, and positioning to establish V-Nova as a thought leader in these domains.
- Coordinate closely with internal engineering and product teams to ensure technical readiness and roadmap alignment.
- Lead and coordinate internal standards contributors across engineering, product, research, and IP functions.
- Act as the primary bridge between standards activity and V-Nova’s technology, product, and IP strategy.
- Work closely with the Vice President, Technology & Standards to ensure a clear division of responsibilities between strategic influence and technical execution.
Qualifications
- Deep technical expertise in video coding and media technologies.
- Proven ability to draft, defend, and negotiate technical contributions and normative text.
- Ability to lead complex technical discussions and cross-functional teams with a high degree of autonomy.
- Strong strategic awareness of how standards decisions drive commercial outcomes and IP value.
- Ideally, strong hands-on experience and credibility in JVET and/or MPEG.
- Creative problem solver who thrives in highly collaborative environments, bringing multidisciplinary teams together to resolve complex technical challenges and drive consensus-based innovation.
