This is achieved through deep-science R&D (1000+ patents) and the development of products that test, prove, and continuously enhance digital experiences.
As a Patent and IP Specialist you will play a key role in capturing, reviewing, processing, and analysing inventions for patentability. This will give you a chance to develop your career into either a Patent Attorney or a Patent Manager. You will have a chance to work across an agile company who take idea to invention quickly, without the blockers experienced in large corporations. We focus on quality over quantity so your work will be important in helping us shape the future of our products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invention Capture & Analysis: Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and developers to identify and capture new inventions, ensuring they are well-documented and prepared for patent submission.
- Administration of the Invention Filing Process: Schedule meetings between external counsel and inventors and follow up with inventors and external counsel to ensure adherence to the filing timeline, as needed. Log data into the invention reward system. Request and monitor the purchase orders for invention drafting.
- Invention Documentation: Maintain the invention Jira board and keep the invention SharePoint directory up-to-date with the latest documentation.
- Conduct IP Brainstorming/Harvest Sessions: Organise IP brainstorming sessions as appropriate, especially for new or fast-moving projects.
- IP-Engineering Interface: Regularly attending engineering (and product) stand-ups, planning sessions, and problem-solving meetings. Proactively organise and conduct regular IP catch-ups with key stakeholders and IP contributors (e.g., technical leads, project managers) and report findings and updates to the IP team.
- Patent Drafting: Assist with the preparation of patent applications, including preparing technical documentation for a patent description.
- Patent Prosecution Support: Coordinating with inventors and external counsel, and responding to office actions under supervision. Perform other patent prosecution tasks, such as organising documents for signature and coordinating meetings between inventors and attorneys to ensure patent prosecution strategies align with current and future technological developments.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Physics or a related technical field. Training or certification in intellectual property (e.g., Postgraduate Certification in Intellectual Property Law) is a plus.
- Experience: Experience in an engineering, research, or patent-focused role. Education, work experience or interest in a relevant technical field (compression, image processing, virtual reality, AI, 3D data processing, computer hardware design, and similar). Familiarity with patent prosecution processes and drafting patent applications is highly desirable. Experience with managing patent portfolios and IP strategy is advantageous.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex technical concepts and identify patentable aspects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical information for non-technical audiences. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
