Overview Wiper for cruise vessel Vasco Da Gama Department: Engine Employment Type: Contract Location: Shipboard Description: We are looking for WIPER ready to join cruise vessel VASCO DA GAMA , embarkation 07/Nov/2025 , contract 4 months +/-1, required experienced as such, all valid Certificates. The vessel will be crossing Red Sea. Position Summary Responsible to carry out daily maintenance and cleaning of engine spaces, machinery and mechanical equipment as directed by the Engineer in charge. Reporting Structure Reporting to the Staff Engineer and on duty Engineer. Safety Duties Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly. Education/Experience/Qualifications Valid STCW 95 certification. Valid Engine Watch Rating certification A-III/4. Good knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, operation and maintenance of vessel machinery and mechanical equipment. Experience with stripping engines down and rebuilding. Experience on vessels in an equivalent position. Physically and medically fit. Moral integrity is required. Language requirements Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments. Profile Punctual. Proactive approach to problem solving. Ability to be flexible, well organized, self managed and motivated. Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm and effective under pressure and resolve issues quickly. Safe, professional and personal practices. Well acquainted with VMS and MLC requirements. Well-groomed and neat appearance. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to live in close quarters, share limited space with cabin mates. Ability to deliver a high standard of technical performance. Key Responsibilities Performs cleaning and painting of various machinery, equipment and engine room spaces. Assists Engineers and superior ratings with the following (to include but not limited to) Overhauls of engines and auxiliaries. Pumps. Welding. Operating Lathe Machines. Carrying out most steelwork and pipe fittings. Continuously supervises and inspects machinery spaces during working hours and promptly report any deficiencies or malfunctions to the Staff Engineer and on duty engineer. Prevents spares and tools from being damaged due to poor handling. To be part of the technical loading team during intake of provisions. To provide technical assistance during the ship’s tendering operations. Assists with general maintenance (to include but not limited to the following): Cleaning. Painting. Repairs. Keeps the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and duty Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment. Must be competent in using the internal communications systems and have good knowledge of the Engine Room alarms. Responsible for informing the on duty Engineer whenever leaving the engine room to perform duties elsewhere. Keeping supervisors fully informed of the progress of any work undertaken and any defects or problems in his allocated area of responsibility. Responsible for keeping the engine room and all other machinery areas clean, along with all parts and tools used. Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Staff Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies. Ensures that other team members are informed and updated on the occurrences during the watch. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
