V.Ships Leisure is looking for a Specialty Waiter on behalf of MSC Cruises with Mandarin or Korean or Japanese language.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) and ability to communicate in Mandarin or Korean or Japanese language.

As a Specialty Waiter, you will provide an elevated dining experience to our guests, delivering world-class service in one of our specialty restaurants. You will ensure that every meal is an unforgettable culinary journey, catering to the refined tastes and expectations of our guests. With your expertise in premium dining, you will contribute to the smooth operation of the restaurant while upholding the highest service and hospitality standards on board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure food safety compliance.
  • Supervise a specific Station at any food outlet when assigned.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings when required by your Manager.
  • Report any problems and Guest complaints to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Supervise your Assistant Waiter, ensuring he is performing his job correctly, and providing help and encouragement where required.
  • Check your Assistant Waiter on arrival in the Restaurant, ensuring he has showered, shaved, hair neat, no excessive jewellery, and is wearing a clean and pressed uniform with nametag.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of your service station, all tables and chairs, carpet and fixtures.
  • Assist the Specialty restaurant manager in the operation of Dining Table reservations during embarkation of Guests if required.
  • Check your Station and Assistant for cleanliness and correct mis-en-place before and after every meal.
  • Be standing at your station when Guests arrive, helping them by pulling out chairs.
  • Always wear your name-badge on and off duty while on board.
  • Ensure Guests are always served promptly, in a friendly manner and with the correct food.
  • Place the napkin, pull the chair rolls and offer the Menu after Guests are seated.
  • Ensure Guests are never rushed, or made to feel that they are being rushed.
  • Ensure menus are clean before handing to Guests. Advise Supervisors if they are not.
  • Study and understand all menus in all languages.
  • Write the orders on an order pad or Tablet – never on a menu.
  • Explain to Guests the composition of all dishes if required.
  • Have a thorough understanding and knowledge of all food and beverage items in the menu and the ability to recommend Food & Beverage combinations and up-sell alternatives.
  • Make sure that Guests receive the wine list.
  • Handle guest enquiries either by telephone or in person in a courteous and efficient manner and report guest complaints or problems to supervisors if no immediate solution can be found and assure follow up with guests.
  • Make table reservations and effectively control and maximize the flow of guests.
  • Provide Guests with basic wine suggestions, promoting special offers and up-selling when possible.
  • Serve the wine according to Dining Standard Procedures.
  • When taking orders, describe and recommend to Guests the suggested Daily Dishes.
  • Co-ordinate the service with the assistant waiter to ensure Guests are served promptly.
  • Ensure all food is served hot and placed correctly on the plate.
  • Ensure Guests have the correct silverware before each course, and that the correct condiments and sauces are offered with the appropriate food.
  • Serve courses in correct sequence - appetizer, soup, salad, pasta, main course and dessert.
  • Politely ask Guests if they are satisfied with their food, and immediately advise the Specialty Restaurant Supervisor if the Guest is not happy with any aspect of the food or service.
  • Be at your station when Guests leave the restaurant, and offer them a courteous farewell.
  • Provide a professional wine service for Guests as explained and trained by the Specialty restaurant manager.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Specialty Waiter or in a similar fine dining role aboard a cruise ship, a luxury hotel, or an international 5-star resort.
  • Strong knowledge of gourmet cuisine, wine pairings, and premium service etiquette.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) and at least one other European language.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide tailored recommendations to guests.
  • A passion for hospitality and a guest-focused approach, ensuring top-tier service at all times.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment while maintaining a polished and professional demeanor.
  • A team player who collaborates with colleagues to deliver seamless and memorable dining experiences.
