The nautical instructor plays a crucial role in curating and supervising a wide range of onboard nautical experiences aimed at providing guests with exceptional and personalized experiences. The Nautical Instructor is required to possess advanced tender-handling skills. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in operating the vessel’s complement of tenders, specifically the Pascoe Limousine Tender (single-shaft, bow thruster, 18-passenger capacity) and Hatecke Lifeboats (twin-shaft, bow thruster, 110-passenger capacity).
Responsible for:
- Overseeing and guaranteeing the utmost safety and engagement of guests, focusing on managing and programming all Marina activities.
- Ensuring the safe operation of water sports equipment and providing tailored instruction to enrich the water sports experience.
Required Responsibilities:
- Support the entertainment director with the efficient execution of the watersports and marina programs.
- Prepare, organize and schedule marina activities throughout the day, managing activities to ensure all programming areas have the support they need.
- Proactively engage with guests to identify their expectations and needs, fulfilling them promptly.
- Verify the smooth running of entertainment activities, acting on and following up on any issues found to ensure standards are not affected.
- Implement, monitor, evaluate, and manage the operations of watersports activities program in accordance with the standard operating procedures and regulations.
- Work closely with the deck team regarding scheduling, operation and maintenance of the marina.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to show the use of all water sports equipment.
- Maintain the safety of guests at all times with the ability to anticipate the changing environment.
- Active participation in onboard training programs.
- Additional duties, not mentioned here, will be expected as per management request.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
- Attain target KPI’s; any deviation of target is required to have an explanation with a plan to reach goal.
- KPI’s will be measured on Guest & Crew Satisfaction; goals and expectations will be defined by Orient Express shore management.
- KPI’s are used as a measure for performance.

- Demonstrate a professional, elegant and consistent behaviour towards Guests and Crew, reflecting Orient Express’ levels of service.
- Pro-active, problem-solving attitude to excel in the delivery of their assigned tasks and duties.

Qualifications and Experience required:
- Languages: Fluent English plus one additional international language preferred.
- Education: High school degree or related. BNSSA certification (or international equivalent) mandatory.
- Previous professional experience: 2 years as Nautical instructor in a luxury environment.
- Shipboard experience: Yes / No.
Certification required:
- Valid STCW certificates.
- Valid Pre-Employment Medical.
- C1D visa mandatory for all positions.
General requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Be physically fit to stand for at least 10 hours per day and be able to lift at least 50 lbs (~22 kgs) without assistance.
- Male candidates must be at least 5’1” (156 cm) tall. Females must be at least 4’9” (150 cm) tall.
- Ability to speak, understand and comprehend English at an acceptable level.
- Ability to work and live in a structured yet multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.
- Ability to apply common sense and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl and balance.
- No visible tattoos when wearing short sleeved, shorts or skirts.
The contract will be 3 months on board and 2 months off.
