V.Ships Leisure is looking for a Human Resources Manager on behalf of Azamara Cruises. The Human Resources Manager is a strategic HR professional and a member of the Executive Committee, partnering with the leadership team to develop and implement human resources strategies and programs that align with the individual business units and organizational mission and vision. The HR Manager serves as a strategic partner to the shipboard leadership team by providing human resources direction and guidance on all employee-related issues.

The HR Manager must have extensive knowledge in all aspects of HR including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, organizational development, learning, compensation, benefits, and HR systems. The HR Manager leads and manages the ship’s Human Resources Department and serves as the Compliance and Ethics officer, reporting directly to the Captain while maintaining a close relationship with the Captain and the Executive Committee members for all crew-related affairs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advising managers and crew on the development and execution of onboard HR strategies and activities that foster growth, innovation, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Assessing the onboard human resources needs in areas such as performance management, employee relations, career development, and leadership development, and driving appropriate solutions.
  • Managing the Crew Welfare budget in accordance with the SOP.
  • Educating and supporting the onboard management regarding HR policies, procedures, and standards, including the company’s performance management system and promotions process.
  • Partnering with Department and Division Heads to ensure a consistent and fair application of policies, ensuring crew feel they are treated fairly.
  • Ensuring compliance with onboard rules and regulations, taking into account relevant MLC, STCW, ILO, Flag, and LMVS.
  • Implementing and administering onboard benefit programs, processes, and policies.
  • Overseeing sign-on and sign-off procedures, crew immigration/customs, and all other issues related to the HR Center, including turnover and unplanned movement.
  • Overseeing crew payroll and the accurate recording and processing of shipboard payroll.
  • Facilitating professional development through training opportunities and career advancement.
  • Developing direct reports and high-potential members of the Human Resources team to strengthen their current performance and prepare for future advancement.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics as the Compliance and Ethics Officer onboard, leading investigations into potential ethical violations and resolving them accordingly.
  • Inspiring crew satisfaction and recognition of outstanding performance, overseeing crew events and activities.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the “Go Further” and STAR recognition programs, including onboard training.
  • Challenging practices for better methods and inspiring others to focus on continuous improvement, identifying problems, and finding solutions.
  • Creating a climate of trust and mutual respect.
  • Measuring and acting on ship performance against KPIs targets, informing responsible managers of any upcoming issues.
  • Effectively managing the time and attendance of their own and direct reports’ work and rest hours in accordance with MLC regulations and company procedures.
  • Performing any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
  • Responsible for cost containment through proper use, handling, and maintenance of records, reports, supplies, and equipment.
  • Striving for an engaged, professional, and stable HR Department led by motivated and high-performing managers and crewmembers.
  • Overseeing the implementation of crewmember recognition programs.
  • Approving and overseeing the crewmember recreation program, ensuring continuous improvement of the crewmember environment.
  • Identifying and developing onboard talent with assistance from Division Heads and the Executive Committee.
  • Personifying all of the Company's principles and standards as the Ethics Officer onboard, acting as a role model at all times.
  • Taking the initiative to stay abreast of current trends in leadership and Human Resources through relevant reading and job-related learning platforms.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or International equivalent) from an accredited university or college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field is required, or 10 years senior management experience in human resources.
  • Minimum five years progressive experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Minimum of three years in employee relations investigating, negotiating, and resolving grievances and conflicts, preferably in a multi-culture, diverse environment.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills.
  • Communicates tactfully, effectively, and confidently with crew members, guests, and department/division heads, both one-on-one and in larger group settings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Completion of two contracts with a performance rating of proficient or above along with demonstrated HR experience and leadership skills.
  • No disciplinary action on file for the last 12 months.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with crew and guests.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures, give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms, and effectively present information and respond to questions from crew, guests, and co-workers.
  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred.
