To ensure the safe and efficient operation of technical and non-technical equipment outside Engine Room spaces and specifically within the guest and crew areas (including cabins).
Key Responsibilities
- By mutual arrangement with the Staff Engineer, to be on board the vessel at any time the Chief Engineer is absent from the ship.
- Collaborates with the Hotel Director, Staff Captain, and Chief Engineer concerning methods and procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of the technical and non-technical equipment outside the engine room and technical spaces, including guest and crew areas and cabins.
- Using ISSUTRAX, assigns maintenance and repair duties to subordinate personnel and actively supervises any overhaul and repair work.
- Collaborates with the Hotel Director and the Public Health Officer to ensure technical compliance with International sanitation requirements including MSC SANITATION STANDARDS.
- Inspects all related works in progress, and on completion, assures that manpower is fully utilized, that work is executed properly in accordance with acceptable standards.
- Ensures the correct maintenance of the vessel through routine inspections, reporting any nonconformities in writing.
- Checks that the colour schemes, types of paint used, and adequate safety precautions for personnel and equipment are observed. Also ensures that the correct safe disposal of all refuse, rags etc. is observed to avoid fire and other hazards during and after work.
- Ensures control over the issue and use of materials to prevent waste.
- Trains subordinates to follow safe working practices, ensures that functions are fully recognized by each person and that work is done in a manner that conforms to established company standards.
- Operates with full consideration for the comfort of Guests - this is a prime consideration of the Company.
- Must possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with guests, ship’s management, and corporate management ashore.
- Ensures that any malfunctions/defects/issues related to equipment misuse/abuse are reported to support the continuous development of appropriate maintenance and design structures.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Fluent in oral and written English (working language of the Company).
- Ability to speak, read and write in any other major Asian language (Mandarin/Japanese/Korean) is considered an advantage that might influence the selection for this position.
- Extensive experience in a similar position within MSC Cruises or other cruise companies.
