We are looking for experienced Electro-Technical Officer for Marella Cruises - vessel Marella Explorer, contract 3 months +/-1 (3 months on/off), embarkation is ASAP. Candidates must be experienced on cruise ships and hold all valid Certificates and good references/recommendations.

Position Summary: Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, upkeep, diagnosis, installations, repair and testing of all electrical equipment onboard to the highest degree of safety and performance in accordance with Company Policies and in compliance with Public Health, any National or International standards or any other prescribed regulations. Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.

Reporting Structure: Reporting to the Chief Electrician. Subordinates – 2nd Electricians and Assistant Electrician.

Safety Duties:

  • Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
  • Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  • Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  • Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly, delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Valid STCW 95 certification.
  • Valid certificate of competence including HV certificate.
  • Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
  • Must have a solid understanding of all electrical equipment installed onboard the vessel.
  • Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
  • Physically and medically fit.
  • Moral integrity is required.
  • Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
  • Alaska experience is a plus.
  • It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.

Language requirements: Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board.

Computer knowledge: Good knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all electrical equipment onboard to maximise operational safety and efficiency of the vessel.
  • Safe maintenance, operation, repair, supervision and ownership of electrical systems according to Company policy and other prescribed regulations.
  • Oversees the technical performance of the ship.
  • Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Participates in the development of on board operational plans in accordance with all technical, legislative, safety and procedural specifications.
  • Reports completed maintenance to the Chief Electrician, and update completion in scheduled maintenance system.
  • Keeps Chief Electrician promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
  • Conducting daily communication/briefing to review progress and agree on work prioritisation.
  • Accurate completion of logbooks and other assigned documentation.
  • Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements.
  • Assign maintenance and repair duties to 2nd Electricians and Assistant Electricians, actively supervising.
  • Must be familiar with the Chief Electrician duties to act as 2nd in command of this department.
  • Monitors subordinates working/resting hours and overtime.
  • Maintaining 100% compliance with Company requirements as well as ILO/MLC.
  • Leads, trains and develops subordinates ensuring effective reviews, feedback, coaching and performance management.
  • Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
  • Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
