Additional Requirements

The Able Seaman is responsible to the Bosun / Supervising Officer for:

  • Performing lookout and helmsman duties during watchkeeping in the bridge
  • Carrying out maintenance work and other operational tasks as required
  • Assisting in mooring operations when required
  • Adopting safe working practices
  • Conducting Safety and Security rounds as instructed by the Bosun / Supervising Officer
  • Reporting to the Deck Officers on maintaining a safe deck watch and ensuring that the vessel remains properly moored
  • Assisting in cargo operations (including tank cleaning and sweeping), as requested by the Chief Officer and/or the Officer of the Watch
  • Executing any other tasks or assignments as instructed by the Bosun / Supervising Officer
