The Learning and Development Manager is a key contributor to Silversea’s shipboard talent development strategy. This role delivers agile, high-impact learning experiences that reinforce brand standards and cultural values, while supporting leadership development and crew engagement across the fleet. The L&D Manager acts as a coach, facilitator, and ambassador of the Silversea Way, ensuring that learning is continuous, adaptive, and aligned with operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate dynamic, modular learning experiences using agile methodologies that allow for rapid iteration, feedback, and customization based on crew needs and operational context.
- Deliver leadership and career development programs that are responsive to real-time performance data and crew feedback.
- Conduct ongoing learning needs assessments to identify gaps and opportunities for targeted development.
- Support onboarding, orientation, and continuous learning sessions that embed brand standards and cultural expectations.
- Coach crew and junior leaders to reinforce learning outcomes and encourage growth through microlearning, peer learning, and experiential techniques.
- Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring all learning content and delivery methods reflect the Silversea Way.
- Collaborate with department leaders to embed brand standards into daily operations and crew interactions.
- Monitor and assess adherence to brand standards through observation, feedback, and performance metrics.
- Ensure shipboard Senior Leaders have successfully completed T3 - Facilitation and Communication Skills therefore capable to facilitate, coach, and champion the Silversea Way.
- Coach leaders and crew on cultural behaviors that support a harmonious and respectful work environment.
- Conduct pulse checks and informal assessments to gauge crew engagement and cultural alignment.
- Partner with onboard HR Directors/Managers to support crew recognition, morale-building, and engagement initiatives.
- Track and report on learning participation, engagement, and impact using agreed KPIs and agile feedback loops.
- Recommend improvements to learning programs based on crew feedback, performance trends, and brand evolution.
- Share best practices across ships to foster consistency and elevate the overall crew experience.
- Support succession planning efforts by identifying and mentoring high-potential crew members.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Broad experience in learning and development, training, or talent management, preferably in hospitality or maritime environments.
- Strong facilitation and coaching skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with agile learning methodologies, microlearning, and experiential learning techniques.
- Deep understanding of brand standards and cultural transformation practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Forbes standards or luxury service benchmarks is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural, dynamic environment.
- Excellent fluent English (verbal and written) is mandatory.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Microsoft 365 admin (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, One Drive, SharePoint, etc).
