Overall Purpose of The Job

Contribution To V.Group Strategy And Values

  • Assuring V.Group capabilities, compliance, and commitment to outstanding service delivery
  • Collaborating with Group, Business Unit, and Operational teams to drive safe operations onboard vessels
  • Ensuring the continuous evolution and improvement of the V.Ships Operating Model (OpModel)
  • Ensuring managed vessels continually improve upon levels of HSSEQ & Operational performance
  • Ensure a data-led and proactive identification of trends that continually improve service delivery performance
  • Challenging the status quo, and ensuring current best-practices are consistently and successfully applied

Overall Purpose Of The Role

Acting as the functional lead and V. representative in all matters relating to HSSEQ and Operational standards and performances, the Group Director, HSSEQ & Operations shall continually drive and promote the highest standards of service delivery through the effective implementation of our evolving Operating Model, HSSEQ Excellence Charter, V.MS, and associated policies and standards, including accountability for;

  • All V.Ships policies, processes, and programs related to HSSEQ and Operations, and ensuring such remain relevant and reflect industry best-practices to maximise our Service Delivery in service of customers’ commercial operability
  • Ensuring that, through the execution and measurement of above, V.’s managed vessels and shore sites are operated to the highest levels of, and continual improvement in compliance with, all relevant HSSEQ and Operational standards
  • The budgeting, resourcing, and successful execution of necessary internal programs related to the execution and delivery of required statutory and compliance programs on behalf of customers’ managed vessels
  • Actively collaborating with V.Group’s Continual Improvement program, whereby data-led analysis of performance trends and root causes ensure continual improvement of our service delivery and statutory obligations, and proactive adoption of new, value-add standards and policies as may be required
  • Continual review and evolution of associated policies and processes to ensure V.Ships activities continually leverage our Operating Model, Operations Support Centers (OSCs), and Shared Resource Pools (SRPs) in pursuit of scalable and cost-effective solutions
  • Ensuring V.Ships is represented at a senior level in relevant, value-add industry programs that both promote V.Ships value and activities, but also places V. squarely – and visibly - at the heart of developing industry standards and best practices

Key Responsibilities And Tasks

Promoting a strong, proactive Culture of HSSEQ Excellence, through;

  • Continually providing strong, visible, and proactive examples of HSSEQ leadership
  • Promotion of a transparent & value-adding HSSEQ culture across the Group
  • Promotion of outstanding operational standards of excellence
  • Acting as change agent for the continual improvement of V.Ships service delivery performances

HSSEQ & Operations Leadership

  • Provide interface between BU and Group management on HSSEQ & Operations issues
  • Act as HSSEQ & Operations representative for client meetings, authority liaison and external forums
  • Provide clear leadership to functional teams to ensure all members are delivering relevant, effective support & value to internal functions and external parties.
  • Ensure individual BU HSSEQ team members are providing visible, positive examples to effectively drive the Company’s HSSEQ Excellence Culture and associated performances
  • Set & monitor annual PDR objectives, and supporting KPI’s, that will enhance team members’ performances, whilst mutually supporting Group and BU objectives

HSSEQ & Operations Standards

Primary accountability for the implementation & execution of effective and efficient HSSEQ & Operations standards, within the V.MS, including (but not limited to);

  • Navigation Safety
  • Operational Activities
  • Management of Change (MoC)
  • HSSEQ Management
  • ERBC Activities
  • Security, and
  • Measurement & Analysis

HSSEQ & Operations industry representation

Where required, support the V.Ships COO and Group Director, Marine Assurance in effectively representing V. in relevant industry discussions and forums, including;

  • Supporting the Group Dir. Marine Assurance in planning and execution of annual ‘Segment Engagement Plans’, to provide structured programs maintain dialogue and insight with key customers, energy majors, and industry stakeholders
  • Relevant working groups and forums to support and influence the development and evolution of industry standards and practices, and highlighting V.’s influence in same
  • Providing internal process owners with proactive insight of changes to relevant operational legislation, standards & best practices to ensure V.MS and operational procedures remains current and compliant

Incident Response and Investigation

Provide subject matter expertise in response to, and investigation of, all incidents where there are HSSEQ and/or Operations impacts and/or learning opportunities, to ensure;

  • Timely and effective communication with relevant stakeholders, supporting ShipMan offices to execute such notifications, and providing senior V. representation in such dialogue as may be required
  • Subsequent investigations maximise all relevant HSSEQ & Operations learning opportunities, resulting in effective outcomes that drive continual improvement of related systems, processes, and policies

Analysis, Action, and Continual Improvement of HSSEQ & Operations Performance

Drive a data-focussed, continual improvement mindset within the HSSEQ & Operations functions, and Fleet Cells teams within ShipMan offices, to ensure their work and output;

  • Ensures all findings, reports, and insight related to HSSEQ & Operations programs are correctly captured in a manner that maximises opportunity for analysis and continual improvement
  • Ensures that all such data and trends are effectively analysed to provide insight to the Group Continual Improvement function, in order to develop relevant content that consistently improves performances
  • Develops and implement campaigns that provide intellectualized insight of relevant trends, risks, and opportunities in an consistent and engaging manner, driving continual improvement of same
  • Ensures effective and timely escalation of issues that will impact V.’s performance, internally and/or externally, and support response to same
  • Supports Group HR & Crewing with insight and input that ensures the evolution of competence matrices, and the development of training solutions to continually improve performances

HSSEQ & Operations Performance and Measurement

Together with Group Dir. Marine Assurance, set annual and rolling objectives and KPIs that;

  • Ensures effective insight, measurement, and analysis of all relevant HSSEQ & Operations KPIs, relating to operational, business, and customer satisfaction performances
  • Ensures effective insight, measurement, and analysis of all relevant HSSEQ & Operations programs, enabling continual improvement in program content’s structure, and execution
  • Enables proactive steps to be taken to address performance deterioration, either in KPIs or programs themselves, to ensure continual improvement in the HSSEQ & Operations functions and deliverables, overall

HSSEQ & Operations Budgets

Together with Group Dir. Marine Assurance, Group Dir. Technical, and Head of Technical Standards, own, manage, execute against and report upon the MSTS budget and associated elements, including but not limited to;

  • Provision of Group HSSEQ and Operations services and products to ShipMan offices and customers
  • Effective planning, costing, and budgeting of projects and annual one-off events benefiting V.Ships
  • Submission of data in timely and accurate manner to support the annual Technical budgeting cycle
  • Any other additional budgeting activities required to ensure execution of HSSEQ and Operations activities

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Internal Service Delivery KPIs/metrics related to HSSEQ & Operations
  • Internal metrics within the V.VP related to and/or influencing HSSEQ & Operations performances
  • Group and BU performance against industry assurance/accreditation programs
  • Performance against agreed personal objectives for this role and associated direct reports
  • Maintenance of budgets, headcounts, and operational activities that ensure sustainable execution and growth

Essential

  • Relevant experience in a related, senior role
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong ability to make, maintain, and grow customer relations with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to represent V. to the highest professional levels in external forums and customer events
  • Experience in international compliance & certification programs
  • Significant experience in collaborating with multinational / multicultural teams
