Fleet Safety Trainer for MARELLA cruises:

Reporting line: V.Ships Leisure Head of Learning & Development (ashore) / Master (onboard)

The Fleet Trainer plays a key role in promoting the MARELLA learning and development strategy and culture, by supporting onboard Safety Officers in delivering essential training, auditing compliance, and ensuring alignment with the company’s latest concentrated safety campaigns.

The Fleet Trainer will be required to work onboard our vessels for periods at a time, producing and delivering safety-critical training and supporting continuous learning initiatives across all departments.

This is a key role in strengthening the onboard safety culture and operational requirements within the fleet.

Requirements:

  • Hold a recognized Training and Assessment qualification (e.g., Train the Trainer, IMO Model Course 6.09 or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience onboard cruise vessels, preferably in the role of Safety Officer or onboard trainer.
  • Strong knowledge of STCW standards and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently onboard across various vessels.
  • High standard of professional integrity and commitment to safety culture.

Contractual Details:

  • Days of Service: Minimum of 214 working days per annum, of which 200 to be onboard our vessels.
  • Taxes and other personal financial liabilities are the responsibility of the Fleet Trainer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver onboard safety training in accordance with STCW requirements, including:
  • Hotel Basic Safety Training (PST, BFF, PSSR, EFA)
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue (PSCRB and PSCRB Refresher)
  • Fire Team Training (Practical)
  • Lifeboat Launching Operations (Practical)
  • Tender Coxswain Operations (Practical)
  • Review any training requirements as a result of all Internal and External Audit findings.
  • Take a pro-active role in preventing and reducing the occurrences of accidents, near misses, hazardous incidences and safety related audit findings through the provision of targeted training.
  • Promote and assist the fleet in maintaining a safety culture on-board.
  • Supporting and providing familiarisation with the onboard Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Assist in running partial & Full Crew Drills and produce drill reports
  • Assist in liaising with all departments and produce a weekly training program to meet the training requirements of the ship, department and individual.
  • Help produce training courses for approval by Head of Learning & Development.
  • When on-board, attend all Safety Committee meetings
  • Assist in running Vessel-Specific Security Training and Drills
  • Produce and conduct Occupational Health & Safety training for all departments
  • Produce and conduct training initiatives in line with V.Group Concentrated Campaigns
  • Monitor training effectiveness and ensure compliance with fleet-wide standards.
  • Participate in training audits and onboard assessments as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports to the Head of Learning & Development.
