We are currently seeking an experienced Deck Fitter with Plumber qualifications who is available to join BALEARIA RoRo Passenger Ferry.

Position: Deck Fitter (with Plumber skills)

Vessel: RoRo Passenger Ferry – TBC

Embarkation: end of January 2026

Contract Duration: 3 months ±1

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in the capacity of Deck Fitter with plumbing responsibilities
  • All mandatory certificates must be valid and up to date
  • Valid STCW 95 certification
  • Valid ASE Certification A-III/5 (preferably)
  • Good knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, operation and maintenance of vessel machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Experience with stripping engines down and rebuilding
  • Experience on vessels in an equivalent position
  • Physically and medically fit
  • Moral integrity required
  • Proven experience or training as a plumber, welding and/or plumbing licence or certification
  • Solid knowledge of water distribution and waste disposal systems
  • Knowledge of functionality of fire and water-tight doors, closing/locking mechanisms, operation of ventilation dampers
  • Ability to read technical drawings, skilled with welding and plumbing tools, work in confined spaces
  • Knowledge of EVAC system and ability to work independently and as part of a team

Position Summary:

Responsible to carry out the daily maintenance and cleaning of engines and mechanical equipment as directed by the officer in charge.

Reporting Structure:

Reporting to the First Engineer/Chief Engineer and on-duty engineer.

Safety Duties:

  • Participates in crew safety drills according to instruction.
  • Must always comply with the company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  • Leads by example by taking care of health and safety of self and others.
  • Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are used correctly.

Language Requirements:

Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Required to stand, walk long distances, reach and sit.
  • Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders.
  • Lifting or pushing up to 50 lb.
  • Overtime work and irregular schedules.
  • Works in the engine control room, engine spaces with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs major and specialised mechanical overhaul and repair work to determine the need for further repairs or adjustments.
  • Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves.
  • Prevents spares and tools from being damaged due to poor handling.
  • Provides installation and breakdown services.
  • Part of the technical loading team during intake of provisions.
  • Provides technical assistance during the ship’s tendering operations.
  • Assists with general maintenance (incl. cleaning, painting, repairs).
  • Keeps the chief engineer, first engineer and duty engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance and any issues that may compromise the ship’s safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
  • Competent in using the internal communications systems and knowledgeable of engine-room alarms.
  • Informs the on-duty engineer whenever leaving the engine room to perform duties elsewhere.
  • Keeps supervisors fully informed of progress of any work undertaken and of any defects or problems in their allocated area.
  • Responsible for keeping the engine room and all other machinery areas clean, along with all parts and tools used.
  • Accountable for ensuring that company, public health, national and international standards are maintained and that any non-compliance is reported to the staff engineer.
  • Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to company policies.
  • Ensures that other team members are informed and updated on occurrences during the watch.
  • Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the engine department and other departments around the ship.
  • General engine room duties and any other duties assigned by supervisors.
  • Installs and repairs water supply lines, waste disposal systems and related appliances and fixtures.
  • Inspects plumbing systems, identifies issues and performs maintenance or repairs as needed (toilet bowl, evac system, sinks, scuppers, showers, beds, tables, chairs, etc.).
  • Cuts, assembles and installs pipes and fittings using hand and power tools.
  • Collaborates with engine fitter, electrician and other workers.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used/needed.
  • Complies with safety and security regulations.
