Description
Engine Storekeeper
This team is responsible for keeping the engine spaces safe, clean and tidy. Main tasks include: Overhaul of pump, welding, operating lathe machines, carrying out most steelwork and pipe fittings.
Position Summary
- To manage, supervise and perform ordering, receiving, storing, accounting, preservation, distribution, shipping and issuing of equipment, spare parts, apparatus and materials onboard to the highest degree of safety and performance in accordance with Company Policies and compliance with Public Health or any other prescribed regulations.
- Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.
Reporting Structure
- Reporting to the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer.
Safety Duties
- Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
- Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
- Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
- Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Valid STCW 95 certification.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
- Extensive experience on board passenger ships in a similar role.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
- Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
Language requirements
- Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge
- Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.
- Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities
- To manage the supply and demand within the technical departments keeping full control of the movement of spares, tools and materials.
- Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in the onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Receiving materials, spare parts and tools, cross checking against purchase orders to ensure quantity, quality and specification of all items received.
- To source new suppliers locally for various spare parts, tools and materials.
- Maintains a good rapport with local suppliers.
- Categorises spare parts, tools and materials in appropriate locations, arranging in a proper manner.
- Has complete knowledge of all items in the technical stores by taking accurate inventories as per Company policies.
- Complete accurate record and documentation keeping. Inputting precise data according to purchase order.
- Ensures orders are raised and proper documentation is completed for the requisition of items.
- Assertive when carrying out responsibilities with regards to control of systems and stock in the technical stores.
- Performs budget control of all technical stores.
- Develops and implements logistics process.
- Keeps the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance. Conducting daily communication to review progress and agree on work prioritisation.
- Create and maintain positive interdepartmental relationships.
- Operates department according to safety and sanitation standards as prescribed in the Company policies.
- Conducts regular inspections of storage areas to ensure proper organisation, cleanliness and maintenance.
- To arrange and lead the team in a safe and efficient manner whilst conducting intake of spare parts, tools and materials.
- Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department.
- All other duties as assigned.
