The Chief Engineer serves as the head of the Engine Department, holding ultimate responsibility to the Master for the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of all shipboard machinery and electrical systems. This senior leadership role involves supervising all engineering officers and ratings, implementing the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), and ensuring strict compliance with environmental, safety, and classification survey requirements.
A critical aspect of the position is the accurate management of fuel, lubricating oils, and waste, including the meticulous maintenance of the Oil Record Book and oversight of all bunkering operations.
