Description

CHIEF ELECTRICIAN for ORIENT EXPRESS CORINTHIAN, embarkation 01/March/2026, contract 2 months on/off.

Position Summary

  1. Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, upkeep, diagnosis, installations, repair and testing of all electrical equipment onboard to the highest degree of safety and performance in accordance with Company Policies and in compliance with Public Health, any National or International standards or any other prescribed regulations.
  2. Manages electrical team.
  3. Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.

Reporting Structure

  1. Reporting to the Chief Engineer.
  2. Functional reporting to Hotel Director for all electrical Hotel Department matters.
  3. Subordinates – ETO, 1st Electrician, 2nd Electricians and Assistant Electrician.

Safety Duties:

  1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
  2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly. Delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  1. Valid STCW95 certification.
  2. Valid CoC A-III/6 including HV certificate.
  3. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
  4. Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passengers ships in a similar role.
  5. Physically and medically fit.
  6. Moral integrity is required.
  7. Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
  8. Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
  9. Alaska experience is a plus.
  10. It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.

Language requirements: Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Computer knowledge: Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible to oversee the technical performance of the ship.
  2. Safe maintenance, operation, repair, supervision and ownership of electrical systems according to Company policies and other prescribed regulations (to include but not limited to the following):
    1. High voltage systems.
    2. Main and auxiliary engines.
    3. Communications.
    4. Light systems including emergency lighting.
    5. Control systems.
    6. Power and engine systems.
    7. Generators.
    8. Thrusters.
    9. Steering gear.
    10. Hi fog.
    11. Watertight doors.
    12. Electrical installation in the engine room.
    13. Navigation systems.
    14. Emergency systems.
    15. Elevators.
    16. Fire alarm systems.
    17. Automation.
    18. Diesel electric propulsion.
    19. Shell doors and platform equipment.
    20. Galley and pantry equipment.
    21. Provision equipment and HVAC equipment.
    22. Laundry machinery and equipment (main laundry as well as Guest and Crew Laundries).
    23. Dining, Bar, Housekeeping pantry equipment.
    24. Rooms Division equipment.
    25. Incinerator, garbage and food waste equipment.
  3. Ensures efficient energy management to control fuel consumption to best practice level.
  4. Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables is on order and in the onboard system to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
  5. Participates in the development of on board operational plans in accordance with all technical, legislative, safety and procedural specifications, to support the successful completion of maintenance periods and works closely with the Hotel Department on all maintenance issues, ensuring a minimal impact on the shipboard operation.
  6. Updates completed maintenance into the planned maintenance system.
  7. Keeps Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance. Conducting daily communication to review progress and agree on work prioritisation.
  8. Attends arrival and departure manoeuvring.
  9. Accurate completion of log books and other assigned documentation.
  10. Assigns and delegates work to electrical team, actively supervising their work, following up with inspection on completion.
  11. Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Chief Electrician any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
  12. Executes strict practices to ensure that the vessel is operated in accordance with the following regulations and Company policies, during all prevailing circumstances and conditions:
    1. International Safety Management Code.
    2. ISPS Code.
    3. SOLAS.
    4. Code of Safe Working Practices.
    5. MARPOL.
    6. Pollution prevention.
    7. STCW.
    8. Oil Record Book.
    9. ILO/IMO/ITF/MLC 2006.
    10. Ballast Water Management.
    11. US CDC Vessel Sanitation Program.
    12. Merchant Shipping Legislation of the Bahamas.
  13. Leads, trains and develops subordinates ensuring effective reviews, feedback, coaching and performance management.
  14. Responsible for electrical department working/rest hours and overtime. Maintaining 100% compliance with Company requirements as well as ILO/MLC.
  15. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
  16. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
  17. All other duties as assigned.
