Description
We are looking for CHIEF ELECTRICIAN ready to join cruise vessel ULTRAMARINE, with embarkation in December 2025, on a 3 months on/off contract. The candidate must be experienced in the role, hold all valid certificates, and provide good references/recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, upkeep, diagnosis, installations, repair and testing of all electrical equipment onboard to the highest degree of safety and performance in accordance with Company Policies and in compliance with Public Health, any National or International standards or any other prescribed regulations.
- Manages electrical team.
- Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and departments.
- Oversee the technical performance of the ship, including safe maintenance, operation, repair, supervision and ownership of electrical systems per company policies and regulations (high voltage systems, main and auxiliary engines, communications, lighting, control systems, power and engine systems, generators, thrusters, steering gear, safety systems, automation, electrical installations in engine room, navigation, emergency systems, elevators, fire alarm systems, etc.).
- Ensures efficient energy management to control fuel consumption to best practice level.
- Ensures sufficient stock of spare parts and consumables on board to cover planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Develops onboard operational plans in accordance with technical, safety and procedural specifications; collaborates with the Hotel Department to minimize impact on ship operations.
- Updates completed maintenance into the planned maintenance system.
- Maintains communication with the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer; reviews progress and prioritizes work.
- Attends arrival and departure manoeuvring.
- Maintains accurate log books and other documentation.
- Assigns and delegates work to the electrical team; supervises and follows up on completion.
- Ensures compliance with Company, Public Health, National and International standards; reports non-compliance as needed.
- Adheres to regulations and policies including ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, Code of Safe Working Practices, MARPOL, Pollution prevention, STCW,Oil Record Book, ILO/IMO/ITF/MLC 2006, Ballast Water Management, US CDC Vessel Sanitation Program, and Bahamas Merchant Shipping Legislation.
- Leads, trains and develops subordinates; conducts reviews, coaching and performance management.
- Manages electrical department working/rest hours and overtime, ensuring 100% compliance with Company requirements and ILO/MLC.
- Maintains uniform and grooming standards; promotes safe, professional practice and high standards of technical performance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Reporting Structure
- Reporting to the Chief Engineer.
- Functional reporting to Hotel Director for all electrical Hotel Department matters.
- Subordinates β ETO, 1st Electrician, 2nd Electricians and Assistant Electrician.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
- Valid STCW95 certification.
- Valid CoC A-III/6 including HV certificate.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
- Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
- Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
- Alaska experience is a plus.
- Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience is recommended.
Language requirements
Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions verbally and in writing and to engage effectively with guests and crew. Additional languages are beneficial.
Computer knowledge
Good working knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Requires standing, walking long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, climbing stairs and ladders. Lifting or pushing up to 50 lbs. Overtime and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with noise, light traffic and distracting environments.
