We are looking for experienced CARPENTER ready to join cruise vessel VASCO DA GAMA, embarkation 28/March/2026, Contract 9 months +/- 1.
Position Summary: Responsible for performing specialized duties to install, repair and maintain fixtures, fittings, furnishings and equipment in accordance with Company Policies, any National or International standards and any other prescribed regulations. Participating in the preparation of the vessel for arrival and departure. Assisting and supporting the Deck department in every respect according to the Master’s or Staff Captain’s instructions.
Reporting Structure: Reporting to the Staff Captain.
Safety Duties: Participates in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions. Always complies with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
- Valid STCW95 certification.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
- Good understanding of carpentry, woodwork, maintenance and repair.
- Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Coast Guard, Port State Control and Public Health experience.
Language requirements: Fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Executes general maintenance, repair, installation and upkeep of material equipment.
- Responsible to be familiar with the operation and location of all lifesaving, fire-fighting and pollution prevention equipment.
- Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors or other fixtures and fittings.
- Maintenance and repair of furniture of the following (to include but not limited to): Guest and crew accommodations, Public areas, Bars, Theater, Lounges, Restaurants.
- Maintains a clean and orderly working area.
- Attends mooring during arrival and departure.
- Responsible for the potable water connection as required.
- Responsible for the potable water equipment and maintaining Public Health standards.
- Installs and repairs carpets and tiles as per instruction of the Staff Captain.
- Responsible for any removal or installation of ceilings and bulkheads throughout the vessel if required for repair or maintenance of any pipes or other plumbing.
- Ensures that all work materials and equipment are properly stowed.
- Responsible for keeping an inventory of work materials, stores and equipment.
- Assists with the ships key card system, replacing batteries and re-encoding when needed.
- Responsible for all varnishing required on the open decks and teak deck repairs.
- Will participate in the tendering operations under the Staff Captain’s instruction when the vessel is at anchor.
- Will participate in safe zodiac operation as per Staff Captains instructions.
- Has a full knowledge of every aspect of safety features of the vessel.
- Keeps the Staff Captain and Officer on duty promptly and fully informed of all problems and matters of significance.
- Accountable for ensuring that Company, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements.
- Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Deck department and other departments around the ship.
- Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
- All other duties as assigned.
