Joining date: ASAP. Contract: 3 months On / 3 months Off. Reporting line: EnvO and Staff Captain. Direct reports: Incinerator Operator. Department: Deck.

Qualifications: as per C601D (Marella Cruises) Training & Certification Matrix.

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Company’s Environmental and Energy Policies and the requirements of all applicable local, national and international legal regulations, by providing oversight and assistance to the entire shipboard team.
  • Educating, ensuring and raising awareness of the shipboard team on the importance of compliance with environmental regulations, highlighting the benefits, and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Communicating the Company’s Environmental and Energy Efficiency Objectives and Targets to all Officers and Crew, ensuring awareness, encouraging their participation and contribution.
  • Ensuring that all Officers and Crew are familiar with the Company Environmental and Energy Efficiency Objectives and Targets, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, SEEMP, FuelEU and MRV according to their ranks.
  • Gathering and compiling sustainable data as per the Company Policies and Management System requirements, e.g. SEEMP, VPR, MRV, as applicable.
  • Ensuring the Planned Maintenance System is updated with regards to Environmental and Energy Efficiency work orders.
  • Attending Senior Management Meetings, HSE Committee Meetings and other Meetings in accordance with the Company Policies and Management System requirements.
  • Providing relevant information pertaining to environmental limits, rules and regulations in order to facilitate passage planning, review and confirm the environmental restrictions in the itinerary or voyage plan.
  • Holding responsibility for maintaining the “Environmental Seals Register” and that the Environmental Seals are controlled, correctly issued and the appropriate Logbooks are maintained and drawings or sketches are available indicating the position of the Environmental seals.
  • Ensuring “Environmental and Energy Efficiency Compliance Assessment” is completed.
  • Conducting Environmental, Energy Efficiency and Hazardous Material familiarisations and training according to relevant procedures.
  • Monitoring the execution of Integrated Pest Management.
  • Monitoring the ORB, BWRB, BFRB, EGCS RB, Sewage & Grey Water RB, Voyage Reports to ensure it is up to date, completed accurately and signed. Errors are corrected in a readable manner and initialed.
  • Advising the Master, Staff Captain, Chief Engineer, Deck Officer of the Watch and Engine Officer of the Watch of any concerns regarding discharges or emissions.
  • Reporting any irregularities and/or Non-Compliances with Environmental and Energy Efficiency policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the DPA and Vessel Manager are notified of any failures of pollution prevention equipment that extends for longer than 24 hours, any environmental incidents and/or any unauthorised modifications, stub pieces, cross-connections or piping on any waste systems.
  • Investigating Environmental and Energy Efficiency incidents as per the VMS.
  • Assisting the Master and Chief Engineer during relevant audits and inspections.
  • Ensuring corrective and preventive measures on Environmental and Energy Efficiency defects, observations and/or non-conformities are effectively and timely implemented.
  • Holding responsibility for compliance with the Garbage Management Plan (GMP) and its procedures, monitoring offload operations for general garbage, special waste and hazardous waste as per the VMS.
  • Holding responsibility for all general, special or hazardous waste being segregated, stored and labelled correctly.
  • Holding responsibility for accurate completion of the (Electronic) Garbage Record Book (GRB), retention of relevant receipts and completion of MARPOL Annex V Port Declarations.
  • Holding responsibility for the completion of the waste section of daily noon report in Napa E-Log.
  • Liaising with Staff Captain and Chief Purser to ensure that waste is offloaded in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Working with relevant departments to plan all waste stream management activities for the forthcoming cruise to ensure full compliance and cost-effective waste stream handling.
  • Supervising and supporting the incinerator operators and waste-stream management team.
  • Monitoring stock levels and ordering consumables for waste stream management.
  • Ensuring that Ballast Water Management Plan and its procedures have been followed and complied with by Deck and Engine Departments, assisting in the education of both departments on the regulations governing Ballast operations.
  • Checking and confirming electronic ballast water log is completed correctly and is reflecting correct operation.
  • Supervising ballast water operations for environmental compliance in liaison with the Staff Captain.
  • Ensuring that Company policies and procedures for Black and Grey Water discharges have been followed and complied with by Deck and Engine Departments.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Company bunkering and offloading Policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring all required oil pollution placards, hydrostatic test certificates, oil transfer procedures and system line diagrams are posted, Bunker Samples are retained and stored appropriately.
  • Supporting with planning and ensuring Fuel Change Over and their associated records are maintained according to the Company policies and procedures, monitoring that bunkers used are in compliance with current sulphur limits as outlined in the Company policies and procedures.
  • Supporting with ensuring operational compliance of Oily Water Separator (OWS), and controlled access to the “white box”.
  • Overseeing the handling, storage and maintenance of potable water bunkering equipment and conducting the respective training for potable water bunkering and handling.
  • Supporting all officers and managers with the correct storage, segregation and labelling of chemicals as required by the Hazardous Material Management Plan.
  • Ensuring Safety Data Sheets are provided at the chemical storages and distribution locations, as well as all other locations where full oversight of chemical storage is required for emergency response purposes.
  • Ensuring the vessel’s SOPEP equipment, inventory and manual is complete, accurate, minimum stock levels are maintained and readily available.
  • Working with the vessel’s Safety Officer to plan and conduct SOPEP drills.
  • Conducting training sessions, as deemed required, relating to Oil and Chemical spill response.
  • Monitoring the vessel’s energy efficiency by assessing onboard consumption and generation available data (SFOC, potable water, effluent, waste stream, etc.) against the fleetwide benchmarks and set objectives, where applicable. Reporting any abnormalities to Chief Engineer and Staff Captain, and to ECM, EESI and Vessel Manager if negative trend remains for two consecutive weeks.
  • Maintaining the working area clean, safe, and handling tools and equipment with care.
  • Participating in emergency drills and responding to actual emergencies as per the Muster List.
  • Adhering to and ensuring all persons under their supervision adhere to all safety regulations and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during work activities.
  • Adhering to and ensuring all persons under their supervision adhere and comply with all company policies and procedures, manuals and directives.
  • Performing duties and tasks according to above but not limited to that.

  • Attend passenger social events as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Partake in inspections, trainings and meetings as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Ensure any direct reports are line managed effectively in accordance with Marella and V.Ships Leisure appraisal policies.
  • Ensure accessibility to direct reports and support individuals’ needs, sourcing advice and reporting matters of a personal nature confidentially to the Head of Department where necessary.
  • Other shipboard tasks pertaining to departmental operations as directed by Head of Department.
  • Attending trainings and office visits arranged by V.Ships Leisure where possible.
