Additional Requirements
- Responsible to Second Engineer/Chief Engineer for:
- the safe and efficient functioning of all aspects of the engineering department during his watch
- ensuring that all machinery is in safe condition and operated in a safe manner
- ensuring that all operations are carried out according to correct and safe procedures
- monitoring of machinery to ensure efficient operation, to minimize fuel and oil consumption and to ensure maximum availability of machinery at all times
- making regular tours of inspection of machinery spaces during his watch
- ensuring that Bridge or DP room and OCC are kept informed of all relevant engine room activities and developments which may affect them
- ensuring that all emergency plant and equipment is in good working order, that it is tested at set intervals and that it is available at all times
- monitoring of all machinery maintenance and repairs to ensure that they are carried out safely and efficiently and to an acceptable standard of workmanship
- ensuring efficient and economic usage of spare gear
- keeping planned maintenance records up to date
HSE Responsibilities
- Ensuring that daily activities within the engineering department are carried out in a safe and healthy manner and that the impact of the engineering department operations on the environment are within acceptable limits.
- Ensuring that the Company Environmental Policies are complied with at all times regarding the discharge of bilges, sewage etc.
