The Academic Mentor plays a key role in supporting student achievement by delivering high‑quality targeted tuition and academic interventions that remove barriers to learning and raise attainment. Working closely with Curriculum Leaders and teachers, the role involves planning, delivering and evaluating personalised learning programmes for individual students and small groups, ensuring interventions are fully aligned with classroom teaching and curriculum objectives.

In addition to mentoring responsibilities, the role includes invigilating internal and external examinations, either independently or as part of a team, ensuring compliance with examination regulations and maintaining a calm, orderly environment. The Academic Mentor demonstrates high professional standards, strong organisational and communication skills, and a flexible, proactive approach in a busy school environment.

Qualifications

  • First Degree – essential
  • Qualified Teacher Status/PGCE or equivalent – desirable

Skills and Knowledge

  • Highly developed organisational skills – essential
  • Effective communication skills – essential
  • Ability to work efficiently in a very busy environment – essential

Experience

  • Experience of working with young people, ideally in a school setting
  • Experience of supervising groups of young people, ideally in a school setting.
