Business: Family-owned logistics business
The Role
We are looking for a practical, reliable and hands-on Logistics Team Lead to join a family-owned business based in Hounslow. This is a varied role combining team leadership, freight administration and day-to-day logistics operations. You will lead a small team of four, ensuring work is organised effectively and shipments are managed accurately and on time. This is very much a hands-on position. You will be expected to support the team wherever required and, during busy periods, this can include driving a Luton van to Heathrow Airport and Central London.
Previous logistics or freight experience would be highly beneficial. However, we are also interested in candidates with strong transferable operational and team leadership experience. Training will be provided in specialist areas where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support and coordinate a logistics team of four.
- Organise daily workloads and help ensure deadlines and customer requirements are met.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of freight and logistics operations.
- Manage freight shipments from start to finish.
- Support Air, Sea and Road Freight operations.
- Prepare and process import and export documentation.
- Complete and/or oversee customs entries, with training provided where required.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, carriers, agents and other third parties.
- Coordinate warehouse activities, including goods in and goods out.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is completed correctly.
- Identify and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Work closely with the wider business and provide hands-on operational support when needed.
- During busy periods, drive a Luton van for collections and deliveries, including journeys to Heathrow Airport and Central London.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Full UK driving licence and confident driving a Luton van.
- Comfortable driving to Heathrow Airport and Central London as part of the role.
- Previous experience supervising, coordinating or leading a small team.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a busy, deadline-driven environment.
- Reliable, practical and willing to get involved wherever needed.
- Able to work independently and use initiative.
- Looking for a stable, long-term position.
Highly Beneficial
- Previous freight, logistics, transport or shipping experience.
- Experience of Air, Sea and/or Road Freight.
- Knowledge of customs entries and import/export procedures.
- Experience preparing freight or shipping documentation.
- Warehouse or goods-in/goods-out experience.
- Specialist freight and customs knowledge is beneficial rather than essential, as training can be provided to the right candidate.
The Person
This role will suit someone who enjoys working in a small, hands-on business where people work closely together and are prepared to help outside the boundaries of their normal responsibilities when required. You will need to be comfortable switching between leading your team, completing administrative work, dealing with customers and suppliers, solving operational problems and providing practical support with collections and deliveries. As a family-owned business, we are particularly looking for someone who is dependable, committed and interested in becoming a long-term member of the team.
What We Offer
- Salary of £28,000–£32,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Monday to Friday working pattern.
- Opportunity to lead a small team and take ownership of day-to-day logistics operations.
- Training in specialist freight, customs and operational areas where required.
- A varied, hands-on role within an established family-owned business.
- Long-term opportunity for the right person.
