Centacare North Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling, family support, mediation, family dispute resolution, disability services, education and courses, crisis housing and homelessness support, youth services, community engagement and NDIS services. Centacare services the North Queensland community from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, and Normanton.

The purpose of the position is to facilitate evidence-based and Centacare North Queensland developed programs to children and adults, aimed at enhancing personal and interpersonal capacity and parenting skills.

We are seeking a Practitioner to join our Education and Life Skills Program where our aim is to enhance individual quality of life and strengthen family relationships through psycho-social education and skills building activities. This is a full-time permanent role based in our Townsville office.

Description:

Joining a values-driven, supportive and inclusive team, you will:

  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate evidence based and/or internally developed programs for children and adults within Centacare North Queensland, Schools or various Community venues.
  • Understand group work principles and how to adapt delivery and pace of content to meet the needs of the group.
  • Conduct intake, psycho-social, risk assessments and make appropriate referrals at various points of client interaction from initial interaction, throughout course and at completion of course.
  • Actively participate in regular line management and supervision and to participate in team and agency meetings.

Skills And Experiences:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Possession of a relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences and eligibility for membership of a relevant professional association.
  • Demonstration of knowledge of theoretical frameworks associated with child development, family dynamics and functioning and models of change.
  • Ability to implement psycho-social and risk assessment skills during all stages of client contact – from initial intake through to course follow up.
  • A current Drivers’ Licence.
  • Blue Card or be eligible to obtain Disability Worker Screening (Yellow Card) or be eligible to obtain.

It is desirable you will have:

  • An ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders children and families and other CALD families.
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
  • A demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of family functioning and child development in a broad range of cultural and social contexts.
