The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sportswear designer to join the team at UVU as they expand the team and product offering. UVU is on a mission to inspire a new aesthetic for sport – one that seamlessly blends performance with cultural relevance and redefines what it means to dress for an active lifestyle. As a Sportswear Designer, you’ll play an integral role in shaping the product vision for the brand alongside some of the industry’s most innovative and influential creatives. Key Responsibilities
- Design
- Concept, design and develop original apparel solutions for the UVU brand
- Work closely with Design leads to bring to life product briefs, through detailed technical sketches and product development
- Self manage own creative process and execute towards given design direction
- Research and Trends
- Conduct trend research to stay updated on current styles, colours, and industry innovations.
- Create concepts for graphic and print designs that align with UVU’s brand identity
- Build consumer profiles, identifying key personas/influencers/athletes and future market opportunities
- Contribute insights into what resonates with today’s active lifestyle audience
- Fabric trend research and sourcing
- Work closely with senior team members, taking feedback and iterating on designs to meet project objectives
- Liaise with FGVs to ensure strong relationships and efficient product development
- Present product ideas and details with confidence and clarity
- Visualize ideas for products and ranges with a high degree of expertise
- Translate insights into compelling narratives and visual storytelling
- Communicate design intent to all stakeholders with creative solutions that push innovation
- File Management
- Organise and maintain design files, ensuring assets are properly labelled and stored.
- Support the team in maintaining UVU’s design library and visual resources.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sportswear Design, Apparel Design or related field
- 3 or more years of relevant design experience
- Proven experience with the entire design process (project scope and time planning, design steps, production/execution of design solutions)
- Strong portfolio showcasing an eye for style, silhouette, and creative vision
- Passionate about design, sports and lifestyle trends, with a keen interest in shaping the future of Sportswear apparel/accessory design
- In depth knowledge of construction, trims, and performance materials
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); experience with 3D design software is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment and take direction from design director/CEO
- Ability to adapt to change and handle multiple, competing priorities
- Strong visual and verbal communication skills, able to effectively present design intent to internal and external audiences.
- A proactive and positive attitude, with an eagerness to contribute to UVU’s creative vision.
