Uttlesford District Council is seeking an experienced and design-led Principal Landscape Officer to play a key role in shaping high-quality growth across the district’s strategic sites, including major employment locations. Working within a multidisciplinary service spanning planning, urban design, conservation, economic development and climate change, you will help ensure that landscape considerations are embedded from the earliest stages of site promotion through to delivery.
The role will support the Council’s commitment to protecting its distinctive landscapes while accommodating sustainable economic growth, ensuring that new development is informed by strong landscape character, green infrastructure principles and environmental quality. As a senior specialist, you will provide expert advice across policy development, masterplanning and development management.
You will champion landscape-led approaches that integrate high-quality public realm, multifunctional green infrastructure and robust mitigation of visual and environmental impacts. The role will also lead on arboricultural matters, providing professional tree advice to support the retention, protection and enhancement of Uttlesford’s valuable tree stock and wider treescape.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and partners, you will help deliver resilient, attractive and well-functioning places that respond to climate change, support biodiversity, and create lasting benefits for communities and the local economy.
