Applications are invited for the post of administrative officer supporting the environmental health commercial team. The role is hybrid and whilst the role will allow primarily for home-based working, it will require some attendance at the border control facilities at Stansted Airport and occasionally at other council office sites located across the district, so flexibility and access to transport is essential.
The successful applicant will be responsible for a busy and varied workload fielding telephone and email correspondence, maintaining databases, invoicing, ordering of equipment and supplies, occasional minute taking, supporting report preparation and generally assisting the field officers with their day to day administrative work.
You will be enthusiastic and self-motivated with the ability to manage your own workload within tight timescales. Excellent communication at all levels and attention to detail are essential, together with organisational skills and the ability to contribute effectively to team working. Having a desire to mutually work towards a shared goal is key to this role.
There will also be opportunity to support the work of the corporate health and safety and emergency planning teams and provide resilience cover for administrative officers in the environmental protection and imported food teams. Environmental health (commercial) is a busy front line service dealing with a wide range of issues including food safety, imported food controls, health and safety and infectious disease control. While we have enforcement responsibilities, we also pride ourselves on providing an informative and educative service to the public, business proprietors and other service users.
We encourage and support our employees to have a healthy work life balance as well as offering a range of benefits including generous annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro-rata), leisure centre discounts, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers.
For an informal discussion please contact Andrew Watkinson Environmental Health Team leader or Tony Cobden Environmental Health Manager on 01799 510510.
