The SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL DBA will be a key member of the DBA team, responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our organization\'s SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL databases. They will work closely with other technical teams and stakeholders to develop and implement database strategies and systems that support our business applications and systems.
Specifically, the Senior DBA will manage installation, configuration, backup and recovery, patching, performance tuning, and capacity planning for our databases, while ensuring that databases and data are secure and have adequate backup and retention mechanisms in place. It will also be expected this professional to develop and use automation through different languages such as PowerShell or Python.
In addition, the Senior DBA will mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance to other teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Database Design
- Designs and implements SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL instances and physical databases in line with business application needs. Assesses proposed changes which impact data storage and usage requirements, ensuring database infrastructure is appropriately updated to accommodate changes without loss of performance or data integrity.
Database administration
- Monitors database performance and activity across SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL platforms, proactively identifying and investigating problems and issues. Recommends solutions and implements database changes designed to address performance issues. Performs routine configuration, installation, and reconfiguration of database-related products. Automates regular database activity such as backups and test environment provision.
Automation
- Develop code to manage and monitor databases, data pipelines, and related infrastructure programmatically. This includes scripting and automating routine tasks and processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Key Tasks
Key Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases as a DBA.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a MS SQL Database Administrator using Microsoft tools.
- Experience with various SQL Server version like 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019, Oracle 10g/11g/12c/18c/19c, and PostgreSQL (latest supported versions).
- Expertise in database administration tasks such as backups, restores, and recovery models, database mirroring, replication, log shipping, etc.
- Experience in performance tuning, query optimisation, and troubleshooting performance issues in SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases.
- Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience in designing and implementing security policies and procedures for SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases.
- Experience with database migration and upgrade projects, including assessment, planning, and execution of migrations across SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL platforms.
- Experience with automation tools such as PowerShell and Python for managing and monitoring SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases.
