Company Description

Hi! We\’re UW. We’re on a mission to take the headache out of utilities by providing them all in one place. One bill for energy, broadband, mobile and insurance and a whole lot of savings!

We’re aiming to double in size as we help more people to stop wasting time and money. Big ambitions, to be delivered by people like you.

Got your attention? Read on…

We put people first. It’s all about you..

We’re looking for a dynamic, pragmatic Senior Risk Manager to help bring order to complexity, without slowing us down. This role will lead the creation and rollout of a practical, business-friendly Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) approach across the group. Our goal is to make risk part of everyday decision-making, not just a box to tick.

In a business that moves fast, in a highly regulated environment, this role will bring clarity and structure where it matters most, supporting executive and business leaders with clear insight. You’ll work closely with a highly involved Executive team that wants frameworks that work in the real world, not as a paperwork exercise.

Key Experience Required

  • Significant experience in risk management or a similar role, including second line of defence experience, ideally within fast-paced, ever-changing environments.
  • Experience creating or evolving risk frameworks.
  • Track record of working with senior stakeholders on strategic decisions and high-impact risks.
  • Exposure to multiple risk types: operational, regulatory, strategic, financial, technology, reputational, change, third party.
  • Ideally having worked in a heavily regulated, customer focused environment – financial services, energy supply or telecoms.
  • Professional qualifications (IRM, FRM, PRM, etc.) are welcome but not essential.
  • Familiarity with ISO 31000, COSO, or other frameworks is a plus, but we care more about practical application and adaptability.
  • Commercial judgment -You understand how decisions get made and how risk fits in.
  • Agility & pragmatism- You balance structure with speed, delivering sufficient control without gold-plating.
  • Stakeholder confidence -You engage assertively with Executives and build instant credibility. Influence without formal authority; use storytelling, data, and timing to get traction.Comfortable influencing across matrixed teams with low formal hierarchy.
  • Strategic awareness You can link risk to business priorities and long-term goals.
  • Data-driven thinking -You use insight and pattern recognition, not just process.
  • Communication clarity -You simplify the complex and get to the point, especially in reports.
  • Hands-on delivery – You roll up your sleeves and get it done.
  • Calm under pressure-You keep a clear head and offer perspective when things get hectic.

We work together. Your team and the people you will work with…

This role reports to the Head of Risk & Financial Services Compliance and will be joining a wider team of Legal & Compliance professionals. You\’ll interact with Executives and Senior leaders across this business to deliver the enterprise risk management framework.

We deliver progress. What you’ll do and how you will make an impact.

This is a newly created role with potential to have huge impact in our business. These are the key responsibilities of the role:

  • Design & deliver a fit-for-purpose ERM framework
    • Build a proportionate, usable ERM framework that scales across business units with minimal bureaucracy.
    • Develop practical tools, templates, and dashboards that translate abstract risk concepts into operational reality.
  • Integrate risk into business operations
    • Ensure risk is embedded in business planning, investment, and prioritisation processes.
    • Support key decisions with fast, clear risk input and create concise reporting for Executive action.
  • Build buy-in and champion risk culture
    • Engage with senior leaders to co-create risk practices that support their goals.
    • Lead second line risk assurance and nudge the business toward smarter, risk-informed decisions.
  • Provide agile, actionable insight
    • Develop risk dashboards and pulse-checks that provide governance without stifling progress.
    • Spot emerging risks early and translate them into business impact, especially in fast-moving areas.

How We’ll Measure Success:

  • ERM framework is live, used, and understood across key parts of the group.
  • Risk is visibly influencing decisions at the right time, without adding drag.
  • Executives feel better informed and more confident about risk when making strategic calls.
  • Increased clarity and consistency around top risks, without slowing business momentum.
  • Positive engagement and pull from the business, not just push from the centre.

So why pick UW?

We’ve got big ambitions so there’s going to be plenty of challenges. There are also a lot of benefits:

  • An industry benchmarked salary. We’ll share it during your first conversation.
  • Share Options and a Save as You Earn scheme.
  • Hybrid working, with 2 days in the office. (We’re definitely open to discussing flexible working arrangements)
  • Electric Car salary sacrifice scheme through Tusker
  • Discount on our services and you get our coveted Cashback Card for free. You’ll also get access to 100s of rewards and discounts through Perkbox
  • A matched contribution pension scheme and life assurance up to 4x your salary. You can also access free mortgage advice and a financial wellbeing tool.
  • Family-friendly policies, designed to help you and your family thrive.
  • Discounted private health insurance, access to an Employee Assistance line and a free Virtual GP. Our wellbeing app Unmind supports your mental health.
  • Belonging groups that help UW shape an even more inclusive future.
