Hi! We’re UW. We’re on a mission to take the headache out of utilities by providing them all in one place. One bill for energy, broadband, mobile, and insurance and a whole lot of savings! We’re aiming to double in size as we help more people to stop wasting time and money—big ambitions, to be delivered by people like you.

This role spans multiple product teams and offers a balanced mix of strategic thinking and hands-on design. You’ll contribute across a range of initiatives focused on improving how customers interact with and understand the product, from key communications to core transactional experiences. You’ll be closely embedded within product teams, building strong relationships with product, engineering, and partner stakeholders. Success in this role comes from thoughtful collaboration, the ability to balance multiple perspectives, and a commitment to creating consistent, human-centred experiences across the product.

As a UX Designer at UW you take ownership of design delivery within your product area. You work closely with your squad to create meaningful and cohesive user experiences, growing your confidence in managing end-to-end design work from discovery and concepting to delivery and iteration. You work collaboratively with product and engineering partners, balancing user needs with business goals. You seek and give feedback regularly, contributing to maintaining quality across the team. You are starting to connect your work to broader user journeys and building confidence in communicating the value of design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Research & Discovery
  • Conduct Research: You independently create research plans and conduct usability tests to validate design solutions with real users.
  • Synthesize Insights: You synthesize research findings into actionable insights and clearly articulate user problems to your product team, ensuring design decisions are grounded in evidence.
  • Business Context: You build an understanding of your product area, user needs, and business context, ensuring you understand how your work contributes to broader business goals.
  • Design Execution & Craft
    • Process: You apply design processes (like the Triple Diamond) and know when to adapt them to meet project deadlines.
    • Prototyping: You use prototypes to validate or disprove ideas quickly, exploring directions through user testing.
    • Quality & Accessibility: You create clean, logical, and accessible designs that follow usability best practices. You ensure UI accessibility through color contrast, clear typography, and distinct interactive states.
    • Detail: You produce thorough and complete work, with edge cases fully thought out. You also write clear and concise UX copy.
  • Collaboration & Operations
    • Engineering Handoff: You communicate interactions and handoff details clearly to engineers, helping bridge the gap between design and development.
    • Feedback Loop: You proactively seek feedback from relevant designers throughout your design process and ensure your work is visible within the UX and product teams.
    • Culture: You contribute positively to the team culture, learning from feedback and modeling our values.
