Role summary
We’re looking for an extraordinary claims specialist to join our team, reporting directly to the CEO for UWI. This is a newly created role to be instrumental in delivering an outstanding claims proposition, managing claim handling providers and solving insights from complaints to drive target outcomes on our insurance portfolio.
Qualifications / Key skills
- You will be an insurance claims expert, loss adjuster or have significant experience in property claims that you now want to develop and deepen
- An excellent understanding of the UK general insurance market is essential.
- Significant experience of managing relationships with external claims handlers
- Strong skillset in assessing and managing technical claims
- Customer focused and able to independently identify opportunities for improvement, cost saving and decisions that drive customer satisfaction.

Team & responsibilities
You\’ll report directly to the CEO for UWI and you\’ll be working with colleagues across the Utility Warehouse insurance team, both in the UK and Gibraltar, to deliver a best in class proposition. You\’ll manage external relationships with our Claims Handlers.
What you’ll do and how you will make an impact
- Day to day relationship management of 4 relationships with external claims handlers totalling: £15m per year and growing, supporting the Head of Claims
- Manage day to day claims referrals and make technical decisions.
- Review proposed approach and scope of works for large losses, undertaking site visits where required
- Audit claims handler performance (call handling, desktop and large losses) to assessment operational compliance within the delegated authority and feedback
- Review and analyse conduct and customer dashboards
- Manage FOS referrals, data requests and submissions
- Data gathering and analysis for Claims and Underwriting Committee review
- Work closely with colleagues and other areas of the business to support overall business needs
- Develop and refresh claims practices and philosophy
- Compile and analyse competitor USP’s and recommend improvements
- Providing insight, analysis and trends on the customer claim experience to senior management for decision making
Location & schedule
This role is based in the UK and will require regular travel to our London offices and occasional travel to Gibraltar for UWI meetings. Our preference is for hybrid working but we\’re open to discussing a flexible remote working arrangement.
