Our client, a well-established renewable energy supplier, is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their team and drive new business. As the Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying, engaging, and securing high-value clients (with annual energy consumption between 25GWh and 1TWh+) and design tailored energy strategies that maximise value, sustainability, and profitability. If you have a proven history of securing new business opportunities, developing a strong sales pipeline and selling flexible gas and electricity procurement contracts, along with additional energy products and solutions – apply today!
Key responsibilities for the Business Development Manager:
- Proactively identify, research, and acquire high-consumption industrial energy clients (25GWh+) across electricity and gas portfolios.
- Leverage data-driven insights and digital prospecting tools to target new business opportunities.
- Develop and execute a robust growth strategy focused on financial performance, customer value, and long-term sustainability outcomes.
- Lead the full sales cycle, from tender management and pricing strategy to deal structuring and negotiation—ensuring commercial success and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams (Trading Desk, Product, and Operations) to design flexible, innovative contract structures and integrated decarbonisation offers.
- Stay up to date with market trends, policy developments, and technological innovations across the energy space.
- Present complex energy solutions clearly and persuasively, positioning BGS as a trusted, forward-thinking energy partner.
- Consistently meet or exceed growth targets through strategic pipeline management and proactive market engagement.
Skills and Experience required for the Business Development Manager:
- 5+ years Proven B2B sales experience within an energy supplier or energy consultancy.
- Proactive and self-driven, with a proven ability to identify and convert high-value opportunities independently.
- Strong understanding of the UK energy markets and the full spectrum of decarbonisation solutions—including renewable PPAs, energy efficiency, carbon management, risk management and flexibility products.
- Skilled in data analysis, digital prospecting, and pipeline optimisation, using tools and metrics to guide strategic decisions.
- Strong commercial acumen with exceptional negotiation and deal-structuring skills, consistently driving high-margin, value-added sales.
- Confident communicator with excellent presentation, written, and interpersonal skills, able to engage stakeholders from the technical to the board level.
