Our client, an established multi-utilities infrastructure company, is looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer you will lead on LV/HV network, substation and earthing designs across a range of residential, commercial and industrial projects. You’ll take ownership of multiple projects, working closely with clients, DNOs/IDNOs and internal teams to deliver compliant, accurate designs on time and within budget. Key responsibilities for the Senior Electrical Design Engineer:
- Create LV/HV electrical network designs and earthing assessments for domestic, commercial, and industrial projects - including single line diagrams, wiring layouts, cable schedules, and sizing calculations.
- Secure DNO/IDNO design approval for all network and earthing solutions.
- Ensure designs are accurate, delivered on time and within budget.
- Work closely with Utility Infrastructure Providers and DNOs/IDNOs.
- Provide specialist advice on electrical networks and substations to project stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with industry developments and help shape the department’s design strategy.
- Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders, offering strong technical support.
- Ensure all designs meet client requirements and comply with company standards, DNO/IDNO policies, ENA documentation, CDM regulations, Codes of Practice, national/international legislation, and safety guidelines.
Skills and Experience required for the Senior Electrical Design Engineer:
- 5 years’ experience designing LV/HV (11kV/33kV) networks, substations and earthing systems.
- Degree/HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, ideally with Incorporated Engineer status.
- Strong technical understanding of UK power industry standards — including DNO/IDNO construction requirements, G81 documentation, NERS compliance, CDM Regulations, N.R.S.W.A. and ISO 9001/14001/18001.
- Confident using WinDEBUT/VisNet and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of equipment specifications (cables, substations, plant).
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communicator — able to build strong client relationships, provide clear project updates and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
