You will work alongside our Principal Civil & Structural Design Engineer and Electrical Engineers delivering designs for Electrical Substations from 11kV to 132kV for the connection of generation and demand projects to the electricity distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Work on new build and existing substation developments from concept through to detailed design stage.
  • Civil and Structural design to British Standards, Eurocodes and Distribution Network Operators specifications.
  • Ability to understand and implement Client’s brief and Distribution Network Operators specifications.
  • Preparation and detailing of drawings.
  • Working on own initiative.
  • Undertake site visits, surveys, and inspections.
  • Liaising/working with Clients and Distribution Network Operators.
  • Adhering to project control procedures.
  • Coordinate project requirements at design stage with our electrical and earthing designers.
  • Interpret Geotechnical Reports, Topographical Surveys and Flood Risk Assessments to assess the impact on the civil design.
  • Reinforced concrete foundation design.
  • Design of metal structures to support outdoor Extra High Voltage electrical equipment.
  • Design of cable containment systems.
  • Structural Design Calculations for foundations and metal structures.
  • Design of substation buildings in either reinforced concrete or Brick and Block and associated roof.
  • Design of access roadways.
  • Design of security fencing systems.
  • Design of surface water and foul water drainage systems.
  • Producing setting out drawings.
  • Undertaking cut and fill calculations to determine the site levels.
  • Ensure that designs comply with DNO policy and specifications, The Electricity at Work Regulations, H&S, ESQCR and CDM Regulations.
