The Venue Vaillant Live is where Derby comes together for unforgettable live moments. Recently rebranded and re-energised, this versatile venue hosts concerts, comedy, exhibitions and sporting events for up to 3,500 fans. With a growing programme of touring acts and community events, Vaillant Live plays a vital role in the city’s cultural heartbeat.

The Role

To support the seamless delivery of events at Vaillant Live by preparing, configuring, and maintaining operational setups. As part of the Operations Crew member, you will play a key role in creating exceptional experiences by supporting the Technical Department in ensuring the venue is ready and safe for concerts, conferences, and other events, while working collaboratively to meet expectations and health and safety standards. Our Casual Crew play a vital role in venue turnarounds.

The Responsibilities

  • Support the Operations Team in preparing for concerts, exhibitions, conferences and other public events, working across load‑in, show day and load‑out activities.
  • Build, dismantle and configure event infrastructure, including staging systems, seating layouts, crowd control barriers, queuing systems and venue dividing walls to meet event requirements.
  • Assist with venue changeovers, including overnight reconfigurations, ensuring spaces are prepared efficiently for upcoming events.
  • Support event production activities, including loading and unloading trucks, manual handling of flight cases, supervised rigging and de‑rigging of lighting and sound equipment, and setting up or moving temporary bars, furniture and equipment throughout the venue.
  • Follow instructions from Crew Supervisors while adhering to all health and safety legislation, safe systems of work and operational procedures.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients and visitors, follow instructions and maintain high standards of work.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual handling duties safely and effectively as a key part of the role.
  • A proactive, positive and flexible attitude, with a willingness to learn, undergo training and develop new skills in a fast‑paced events environment.
  • The ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, adapt quickly to changing priorities and event requirements, and respond positively to last‑minute changes.
  • An awareness of health and safety practices, a commitment to completing tasks to a high standard, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, overnight shifts and other unsociable hours as required.

Desirable but not essential skills & experience:

  • Previous experience in the events or entertainment industry.
  • Counterbalance Forklift Truck training or certification.
