A large operational service provider in Somerset is seeking an experienced Senior HGV Technician to take a leading role within a busy commercial workshop. This position is ideal for a skilled professional ready to step into a senior post and support the smooth running of a diverse fleet.
Role Overview
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to workshop staff, ensuring safe working practices and consistent standards expected of a Senior HGV Technician.
- Carry out and coordinate inspections, servicing, diagnostics and repairs across a wide range of heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain high levels of workmanship, ensuring all tasks meet legal, technical and quality requirements while minimising downtime.
- Promote a strong safety culture, investigate incidents, and ensure workshop tools and equipment are used and maintained correctly.
- Plan workloads, manage stock levels, and maintain accurate records to support compliance and audit processes.
- Offer technical advice, assess repair options, and make informed decisions balancing safety, cost and operational needs.
- Build effective working relationships with suppliers, contractors and internal teams.
What You’ll Bring
- City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
- A minimum of five years experience working as an HGV technician in a commercial workshop.
- Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, including COSHH.
- Ability to work independently, safely and effectively in a physically demanding environment.
