We are supporting a client in appointing a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for commercial oversight across a range of small to medium construction schemes, generally up to £1m in value. The position involves close coordination with operational teams, ensuring strong financial governance, accurate reporting, and effective contract administration. The successful individual will also contribute to developing junior colleagues and maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders. Due to the nature of the work, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will ideally live within a reasonable distance of Doncaster.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial activities from project start-up through to completion, including procurement, cost monitoring, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and negotiate subcontract documentation, tender submissions, and final account agreements.
- Produce valuations and applications to support consistent and timely cash flow.
- Track expenditure, resources, and performance to ensure projects remain within agreed financial parameters.
- Identify and manage risks, opportunities, and variations, ensuring all changes are captured and processed correctly.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure compliance with all contractual requirements.
- Support sustainability and carbon-reduction objectives within project delivery.
- Provide guidance and support to junior commercial staff under the direction of the Senior Quantity Surveyor.
Candidate Profile
- Essential
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction sector.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, commercial reporting, and contract administration.
- Practical experience working with NEC forms of contract.
- Confident communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider delivery team.
- Desirable
- Degree-level qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- Around six or more years of relevant industry experience.
- Background in civil engineering or highways-related projects.
- Experience working on public-sector or framework-based programmes, supporting the Senior Quantity Surveyor function.
