Overview
Our client is an established contractor within the infrastructure and utilities sector and is now expanding into the delivery of HV/LV contestable works under NERS accreditation. To support this strategic growth, they are seeking an experienced Manager to lead, develop, and scale this new business area. This senior role requires a commercially minded leader with a strong background in utility connections, capable of driving operational performance while shaping the long-term direction of the ICP function.
Role Purpose
The HV/LV Connections Manager will take full responsibility for establishing and growing the clients HV/LV Independent Connections Provider operations across the UK. This includes identifying opportunities, securing new work, overseeing delivery, and ensuring strong commercial and operational outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in building or expanding ICP or utility services, with the drive and leadership skills to develop a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Strategic Growth
- Lead the creation and expansion of the HV/LV ICP service offering
- Identify and secure new opportunities within utilities, infrastructure, and development sectors
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, developers, and key stakeholders
- Shape and implement a growth strategy that supports long-term commercial success
- Tendering & Commercial Management
- Oversee preparation of tenders and proposals, ensuring competitive and compliant submissions
- Take ownership of securing new contracts and ensuring smooth mobilisation
- Monitor project performance to ensure delivery within budget, programme, and quality expectations
- Drive commercial performance across all ICP activities
- Operational Leadership
- Build, manage, and develop a dedicated ICP team, including engineers, supervisors, and jointers
- Ensure all contestable works are delivered in line with NERS requirements and industry standards
- Maintain high levels of safety, technical compliance, and operational governance
- Provide leadership that promotes quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement
- LV Jointing Services Oversight
- Hold overall responsibility for LV jointing operations across all UK projects
- Ensure consistent standards of safety, workmanship, and productivity
- Manage resource planning and deployment to optimise nationwide delivery
- Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all works comply with NERS standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice
- Support or work towards fulfilling the role of NERS Assessing Officer
- Oversee certification, auditing, and quality assurance processes
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience supervising or managing ICP contestable works
- Strong understanding of HV/LV networks and NERS accreditation requirements
- Demonstrable success in winning and delivering ICP or utility projects
- Experience in establishing or growing a business unit is highly advantageous
- Proven leadership capability with experience managing multidisciplinary teams
- Strong commercial awareness and project/financial management skills
Qualifications
- HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering as a minimum
- Evidence of technical competence aligned to NERS scheme requirements
- Ability to meet NERS Assessing Officer criteria (desirable)
- Full UK driving licence
