We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Traffic Management Supervisor to oversee, plan, and deliver temporary traffic management schemes across urban, rural, and major high-speed road networks throughout Cambridgeshire and the surrounding regions. The successful candidate will lead operational teams out of the local depot network, manage site installations, and ensure full compliance with Chapter 8 and National Highway Sector Schemes.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong team supervision, local authority liaison, and a flexible approach to operational demands (including out-of-hours and emergency call-out response).

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Leadership Operational Delivery
  • Team Supervision: Lead, brief, and supervise on-site traffic management operatives and crews across Cambridgeshire project sites, promoting high safety standards and operational efficiency.
  • Scheme Implementation: Oversee the safe installation, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic management equipment including temporary traffic signals (M6), lane closures, diversions, mobile works, and safety barriers.
  • Safety Toolbox Briefings: Deliver daily toolbox talks and site hazard briefings to team members before works commence.
  • Emergency Winter Response: Participate in call-out rotas for emergency response, high-speed network incidents, and seasonal maintenance requirements across the county.
  • Compliance Health Safety Risk Management: Conduct dynamic risk assessments, implement safety zones, and strictly adhere to Chapter 8 guidance and relevant Sector Schemes (e.g., M1M3, M5M6).
  • Site Inspections Audits: Perform regular safety checks, monitor site compliance, and ensure accurate record-keeping of daily operations and inspections.
  • Incident Reporting: Identify, record, and report any non-compliance issues, near-misses, or safety hazards to operational managers.
  • Stakeholder Client Liaison
  • Primary Site Contact: Serve as the main point of contact on-site for clients, main contractors, engineers, and emergency services.
  • Local Coordination: Liaise with Cambridgeshire County Council, local highway authorities, and project stakeholders to coordinate access, work schedules, and traffic flow management.

Key Qualifications Certifications

  • Essential:
  • Sector Scheme Certifications: Lantra / NHSS M1, M2, M3, M5, and M6 (or RLTMO equivalent).
  • Supervisory Experience: Proven track record in a Supervisor, Foreman, or Lead Operative role within traffic management or highways infrastructure.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence (ability to travel across Cambridgeshire sites).
  • Safety Awareness: SSSTS/SMSTS, Strong practical understanding of Chapter 8, risk assessment methodologies, and site safety management.
  • Desirable:
  • IPV Qualification: Impact Protection Vehicle (IPV) Driver qualification.
  • HGV License: HGV Class 2 License with valid Driver CPC.
  • Plant Specialist Certificates: NPORS Loading Shovel, Winter Maintenance tickets, or safety fence repair experience.
