The Senior Design Manager will lead the design and delivery of surface water drainage and SuDS solutions across a range of engineering projects. This permanent position offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical direction, influence best practice, and support the development of sustainable, compliant drainage strategies from concept through to implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of drainage systems across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with all relevant local, national, and environmental regulations.
- Develop innovative SuDS solutions including attenuation ponds, swales, permeable paving, green roofs, and other sustainable surface water management features.
- Carry out hydraulic and hydrological modelling to assess drainage requirements and determine appropriate SuDS strategies.
- Undertake site surveys, feasibility assessments, and condition reviews of existing drainage systems, identifying capacity issues and recommending improvements.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, design documentation, and supporting project information.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery within agreed scope, timeframes, and budgets.
Requirements:
- Proven experience delivering SuDS or surface water drainage projects.
- Strong capability in drainage modelling and analysis tools such as MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, ICM, or similar.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation and guidance, including the Flood and Water Management Act and the SuDS Manual.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain high technical standards.
