A long-established provider of street lighting and highways electrical services is seeking an experienced LV / Highways Jointer to support ongoing installation, maintenance, and upgrade programmes across Devon. The organisation delivers large-scale lighting and electrical infrastructure projects that help local authorities modernise public-realm assets and improve energy efficiency.
Role Purpose
The LV / Highways Jointer will carry out jointing and electrical works associated with street lighting, illuminated signs, bollards, and other highways electrical equipment. The role combines technical fieldwork, safety-critical operations, and customer-facing duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Street Lighting & Highways Electrical Work: Installing, removing, wiring, and commissioning lighting columns and associated electrical street furniture.
- LV Jointing Activities: Excavating and preparing joint bays, handling LV service and mains cables, and completing jointing tasks with the support of a mate or second operative.
- Safety & Compliance: Completing risk assessments, following safe-system-of-work procedures, and maintaining strict adherence to electrical and highways safety standards.
- Emergency Response: Participating in a call-out rota to attend urgent faults or safety-related incidents.
- Customer Interaction: Engaging professionally with clients, site representatives, and members of the public to ensure a positive service experience.
Essential Experience & Requirements
- Proven background working as an LV / Highways Jointer or in a similar LV cable jointing role within utilities, DNO/IDNO, ICP, or highways electrical environments.
- Previous authorisations or certification for underground LV connections.
- Competence in working on live LV single-phase service cables and terminations.
- Ability to safely remove and replace cut-outs or secondary fuses (single-phase).
- Skilled in LV supply testing and verification.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
Requirements for Higher Salary Band
- City & Guilds 2360 (Parts 1 & 2), 2351, 2330 (Levels 2 & 3), or equivalent recognised electrical qualifications.
- Experience or qualification enabling safe removal and replacement of cut-outs or secondary fuses on single- or three-phase systems.
Desirable Qualifications & Extras
- Current NRSWA (Street Works) accreditation.
- NERS passport or similar network-authorisation certification.
- AM2 or City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing).
- G39 training for public lighting and street-furniture electrical safety.
- Cat 4C certification for live LV overhead mains work.
- Class 2 HGV licence.
- Manual handling and first-aid training.
