We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Utility Surveyor to join our clients growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a keen interest in Civil Engineering, Construction, Utilities, Infrastructure, or Surveying who is looking to build a long-term career within the industry.
No previous utility surveying experience is required. We will provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and support to help you develop the technical skills, industry knowledge, and professional certifications required to become a successful Utility Surveyor.
Working alongside experienced surveyors, you will assist with underground utility mapping and surveying projects across a variety of construction and infrastructure sectors throughout the UK.
Key Responsibilities- Assisting with utility surveys on a variety of sites across the UK
- Learning how to locate and map underground utilities using specialist surveying equipment
- Assisting with the collection, recording, and reporting of survey data
- Supporting the production of survey reports, drawings, and client deliverables
- Following client specifications and industry standards under supervision
- Working closely with survey teams to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on time
- Maintaining effective communication with colleagues, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Assisting with the management and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicles
- Following Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and all company Health & Safety procedures
- Ensuring compliance with relevant industry legislation and best practice, including Health & Safety requirements
- Participating in training, development programmes, and industry certification courses
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and learning opportunities across the business
- Supporting other operational areas of the company as required
- Genuine interest in Civil Engineering, Construction, Utilities, Infrastructure, or Surveying
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Strong work ethic and a reliable approach to work
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours and travelling when required
- Full UK Driving Licence
Successful candidates will receive:
- Full on-the-job training from experienced Utility Surveyors
- Training in the use of specialist surveying equipment, including: Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electromagnetic Location (EML) equipment, GPS and survey-grade positioning equipment
- Support in achieving industry-recognised surveying qualifications and certifications
- Opportunities to progress towards PAS128 utility surveying competency
- A structured career pathway within the surveying and geospatial industry
The following would be advantageous but are not required:
- Previous experience within construction, utilities, civils, highways, engineering, or site-based roles
- AutoCAD experience or an interest in CAD software
- CSCS Card
- Any surveying, engineering, or construction-related qualifications
- Experience working outdoors or on construction sites
