We are supporting a client in Cambridgeshire in the appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial function. This is a full-time role with a full benefits package.

The successful candidate will play a central role in preparing tender documentation and supporting commercial decision-making across a range of civil engineering and telecommunications-related projects. The position requires a strong understanding of project costing, market capability and delivery capacity. Experience within solar or BESS projects is advantageous. Advanced Excel skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing project budgets.
  • Managing subcontractor relationships.
  • Negotiating contractual terms.
  • Administering contract processes such as variations, early warnings and risk assessments.
  • Producing commercial reports, including monthly CVRs.
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients and project teams.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong organisational and project management abilities, with the capacity to work to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex bids simultaneously.
  • Solid financial and commercial awareness, with a clear understanding of pricing, cost control and profit.
  • Familiarity with core contract terminology.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate outputs.
  • Confident communicator capable of building strong client relationships.
  • Able to make sound decisions under pressure and adapt quickly when required.
  • Strong numerical and analytical capability to support commercial judgement.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and guide others.
  • Calm, consistent performance during demanding periods.

Professional Background & Qualifications:

  • Ideally educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • RICS-accredited undergraduate or postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Experience within civil engineering, telecoms or utilities sectors is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NEC contract forms is required.
